What people are saying about Parma
We can't begin to say enough good things about this cooking tour! My husband and I felt great from the time we were picked up by the tour operator, Eliza, to the very last hugs and goodbyes with our host/instructor, Antonia. Eliza arrived early and waited patiently for us to finish breakfast and was very personable and engaging during the drive to Antonia's home. Antonia met us as we drove up as one would a dear old friend or family member, so we instantly felt at home. She treated us to an aperitif in her beautiful garden and informed well about what we were going to do. Throughout the day, she demonstrated each course, then guided and instructed us through them, giving us encouragement and keeping up light conversation along the way. Her kitchen was spacious and clean, and she was well-equipped with enough tools for us to use. The dishes themselves were basic and traditional, yet extremely delicious. We highly recommend this cooking class and look forward to returning to Parma!
Overall I really enjoyed visiting both production sites. However, I was not given the name or contact details of the tour guide before the tour. When I approached someone at the meeting point, he didn't recognise the name of the tour company. It turned out he was the minibus driver... The tour started 15 minutes late and although I was unable to access my ticket online, the guide said this wasn't a problem. I was one of two English speaking people on the tour. The guide made some effort to translate all information into English, however she was not fluent, and I got the impression that she went into more detail when explaining everything in Italian. It was great that we were able to see most of the stages of production.
We had the best time cooking with Antonia. My boyfriend and I went in a tad anxious, as we had no idea what the experience would be like, but ended up having an incredible experience. Antonia welcomes us with coffee and treats in her garden, and was patient and encouraging as we made three dishes together. Her kitchen and property are beautiful, her family is so kind and charming, and I'm thankful for her sharing her family recipes with us. Having dinner together in her garden with plenty of wine and good conversation made it an experience we will remember for years to come. Hope to be back in Parma soon to visit Antonia again -- and you can bet we will be making her recipes for our friends back in NY.
The four hour tour was the perfect amount of time. The tour starts with a small Parmesan Reggiano tour where you can see up close how to make this amazing cheese. At the the end, you get to taste it too! Once done with the cheese, you move on to a much larger factory where the Parma ham is made and you get to see every step in the process. Obviously there is a tasting at the end too! I would not recommend this tour for small children as they will probably find it very dull.
A very interesting tour of the local gourmet foods . It was not rushed and there were a good mix of people . Our guide explained everything well in English . Care was taken in regard to safety and health issues .Those on the full day enjoyed an authentic lunch in a quiet cafe with a lovely ambience .
