Which transportation method should I use?
There are so many choices when it comes to how to take Paris day trips. Whether you’re trying to get to Versailles or the Loire Valley, there’s a good option for everyone.
Paris day trips by train
Greater Paris and France, in general, have an extensive high-speed rail network, often making train travel the most efficient method of travel. Paris has seven main train stations, each serving a different direction and headed to different regions, so which station you use will depend on where you’re going.
Paris day trips by bus
Public bus transportation in the Paris area is more common in cities and in more rural areas. Many guided day tours from Paris will include bus transportation, often with pickup directly from your hotel.
Paris day trips by car
Traveling in your own personal vehicle is always popular for day trips. A car allows you to truly customize your own schedule and itinerary, and to travel more quickly in more rural areas where buses or trains may be less frequent.
Should I take a guided tour?
Guided tours are always excellent options for day trips. They save you the stress of planning an itinerary and, in some cases, your transportation, and often include special perks not available to the general public. Whether it’s skipping the line at Versailles or exclusive wine tastings in the Loire Valley, a guided tour for a day trip is always a good idea.
What do I bring on my day trip?
What to pack on your day trip can change depending on many factors. The season, where you’re going, and your method of travel will all affect what to bring. Some guided tours will provide everything you need for the day. As a general rule, it’s always a good idea to bring extra spending money and a light coat or shawl for unexpected chilly weather and visiting religious sites, regardless of the season.

What people are saying about Paris
Our driver and travel guide was Hanna, and she was excellent. She was very attentive to the group and very knowledgeable about the wines and the region overall. The cellars and caves are very cold, so I recommend you take a warm jacket. It was a rainy day when we went and perfect for the wine tastings. We stopped for lunch at the village of Noyers where there is a couple of food options including a full service restaurant which we tried and loved!!! This village was quite a site to see because it is as time stopped here. We saw almost no locals only tourist stopping by. The wines we tasted were mostly white and quite good. Overall a great day trip to the wine country in France.
Julian our tour guide is quite comical and was light when we went about the tour. He was punctual and arrived at the pick up point on time. We were quite early and reached the garden very early which was ideal to enjoy it without the packed crowd. The well manicured garden was picturesque. We were glad that he showed us that first. The only downside was we had to wait for the other group to join us for the Versailles tour. The tour was very informative as we learned the history of the palace of Versailles.
The beginning of the tour was very disorganized. The station we all arrived at was closed which meant having to walk in the rain to a different station. I don’t know if they knew about the closure ahead of time or if it was a last minute change. Due to this we almost didn’t make it onto the train and literally had a minute to spare. Once we got off the train, the guide really did his best to talk with everyone and the walk from the train to the palace was much better. Also, skip the line tickets are a must!
Absolutely a must see. But most of the excursion will be you sitting for hours. If I’m not mistaken, the drive is more than 4 hours one way and the tour of St Michel is only 3 hours. The guides are good. But speak up if the bus gets warm. Also they don’t announce it but there’s a bathroom in the bus. As all excursion with lunches, lower your expectations but the lunch in this one wasn’t bad.
Giuseppe , the best, over all details, taking care of everyone all the time, from the meeting point to the train, from the train to Versalles, in Versalles, simplemente the best Tourguide of the all Tours we booked.....Cheers x him....
