I love doing food and history walking tours when I travel - I find they are a wonderful way to learn more about the city you are visiting and the local cuisine (and helpful to orient yourself to the city). This tour was interesting - we mostly tried the street food from one place in the Capo market (arancina, panelle (a fried chickpea batter "cake", pane con la milza (oh my this is boiled and then sauteed spleen and lung from a cow served on a soft roll with very salty cheese - I would say this is for folks who like liver or kidney), sfincione (like pizza with no cheese), crocche (a potato croquette), and cannoli. Our guide was very knowledgable - I learned that there are actually tour guide schools and our guide spent 2 years studying his curriculum. I would recommend.
Glad to have the opportunity to leave a review. We were lucky enough to get Francesca on a Sunday. She is knowledgeable as well as flexible ( given we are both over 65) Francesca was able to impart a wealth of knowledge we would never have known otherwise. She also showed us many locations of historical significance and explained their background. As well as this we visited the local markets and streets and , Francesca explained some of the Palmero culture which were just as much fun. Not to mention a couple of little shop detours on the way. Our trip to Palermo was greatly enriched by Francesca’s tour. Grazie Mille Francesca !
My tour guide was amazing. My time in Sicily was limited and I had a rather ambitions list of attractions to explore. She called me the day before of the tour to ask my about my preferences and she planned a schedule that covered all the things that I wanted to see. She even offered to use her scooter and she took me to amazing sites. She made me feel very comfortable and I had a great time with her. I strongly recommend her.
Fabrizio was the difference between a good trip and an excellent experience. He arrived at the appointed time and soon had us entwined in the Palermo life style. The history of Palermo lifestyle and history was explained and how it translated into present circumstances. The food bits were excellent as well! Capo market was explored and the local delicacies were explained and tasted. You must try the Milza!
I loved the course. Patrizia was a knowledgable host and chef, we had a good talk together with her daughter (I was alone on the tour that day) - especially about their upcoming recipe book. In the end it felt like saying good bye to old friends while being stuffed with wine and amazing homemade Sicilian dishes. If I ever come back to Palermo, I might do the tour again!
