It was a long day, and the bus driver was great. It was amazing how he could maneuver that huge bus on those winding roads while also offering running commentary. I had a little trouble understanding theNew Zealand accent through the sound system, but that is not his fault. The ride down the beach at low tide was cool, and the opportunity to try sand surfing was a challenge. It was a lovely day to see Cape Reinga as well. The barbecue was just okay—steak precooked and a bit stringy—but sides were fine, and it gave us a chance to see what the locals do.

Our guide, Paul, was very interesting, informative and personable. The sites that we saw were absolutely stunning! cape Reinga, in particular, was so beautiful. The Sandune surfing was quite an adventure to be sure. The only negative about the tour was the driving. At times It was sort of like being in a scene from Harry Potter on the night bus. We were often going well over the speed limit on really twisting roads and following too close behind slow moving vehicles at speed. A bit nerve wracking at times on the route home in particular.
