Full description
During this tour, you will make your way through the historic French Quarter to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, the final resting place of history’s most revered Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau.

There are three St. Louis Cemeteries in New Orleans, but the oldest existing cemetery in the city is St. Louis Cemetery Number 1. It is still the site of several burials a year. Here you will notice that the cemetery's graves are above-ground tombs, referred to as "Cities of the Dead" because they resembled small houses and make the cemetery look like a city in itself.

You will be accompanied by a licensed tour guide who will share with you the fascinating history of this cemetery and tell you all about the Voodoo culture of New Orleans.

This is a great way to see a part of the towns history through the help of a local or a guide. I went with 3 friends and we all loved it. Our guide Mat was great in the way he told the stories and little fun facts that he had for us. he was very interactive and his pase was great. When in New Orleans I would presonaly advice you to do one of these tours.

This is the perfect tour if you want to learn the most about New Orleans! Our tour guide Mike, history teacher, knows EVERYTHING about the city. We were a rather large group, and Mike managed us perfectly, walking slowly and waiting for everybody before starting talking during the very frequent stops, to tell us more about the city or to show us a landmark . His passion for New Orleans is contagious. I highly recommend this tour, and if you are lucky you will also have Mike as your guide...

Matt walked us throgh all the interesting parts of the French quarter with non stop commentary (how do guided memorise so much information). We visited a voodoo shop where they did readings and practised the art, cool. Madame Leveau's house is a must and all the history that goes with it is fascinating. Although it's a long walk we stopped at the visitors centre for coffee and a toilet break before going into the cemetery, I won't spoil it for you, just book and do the trip. Ours lasted 30 minutes longer than it said do plan accordingly and if you have a trip on the paddle steamer allow 30 minutes to get back, get your tickets and queue. Terrific walk!
