Full description
A few miles upriver from the French Quarter is one of the most well-preserved historic neighborhoods in America - the Garden District. Like many New Orleans neighborhoods, it began as a plantation, later subdivided and sold to a rising mercantile class.
Newly wealthy in the years following the Louisiana Purchase, these Americans built estates to outshine the Creole’s French Quarter. As you walk along your guide will point out these architectural styles and features and share the stories of those who lived behind these grand facades. Enjoy exclusive access to the Opera Guild Home, circa 1865, on the only tour that takes you behind the wrought iron fence and inside one of the beautiful mansions of the Garden District!

See how a skating rink, built for the 1884 World’s Fair, found a new life. Spend a few minutes exploring the tombs of the city’s first planned cemetery: Lafayette Cemetery.
