Full description
Your guide will send you a text the night before the tour so you will know who to look for. Tour groups are kept small so the whole experience is more like walking with friends than being herded around. The small group will meet at Arrow Cafe, a great little local spot on North Rampart Street along the Rampart-St. Claude streetcar line.

First, you will visit the candle-filled grotto of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, which was established in the early 1800s as a mortuary chapel. The church and the cemetery are located on the edge of the neighborhood once called Storyville, a red-light district where jazz, if not born there, grew into a vibrant, unforgettable musical form.

Then, you will enter the cemetery. Because the cemetery is so old and special, you can only enter it with an approved guide. Your expert guide will give you an explanation of the unique, above-ground interment practices, then lead you around the cemetery, pointing out interesting tombs and funerary symbols, and telling stories of the permanent residents of St. Louis #1

Finally, your guide will lead you to the Basin Street Station visitors center, where you can cool off, rest, check out the displays and film and pepper your guide with questions about New Orleans history, culture, and things to do. When the tour concludes, you will have a deeper understanding of what makes New Orleans special, some amazing photographs to show your friends, and a new friend in New Orleans.
