Full description
Experience the two things Louisiana is famous for: Plantation homes and swamps. On this combination tour you will see both of these interesting sights. Tour one of the two best-known plantation homes in the area, Oak Alley Plantation or the Laura plantation.

With an impressive lane of live oaks towering over the entrance of Laura plantation, Oak Alley provides us with a unique insight into the days of slavery. Built in 1837-39, the plantation is famous for its alley of 28 evenly spaced live oak trees, believed to be at least 100 years older than the house itself. Guests can also choose to visit the Laura plantation. Built in 1805, the “memoirs of Laura” exhibit will transport guests to a different time, to the lives of the creole men, women, slaves and children who occupied the plantation.

Then, be taken on a narrated tour of the swamps. The Louisiana bayous are full of alligators, turtles and beautiful water birds. Your local captain will tell you tales of Cajun people living in the swamps. The creole history is both entertaining and mysterious.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Swamp Boat tour. When we got to the sight, I was very pleased to find restrooms that were not only real restrooms (versus a port-a-potty or something) but clean well-maintained restrooms. The boat captain we had, Captain Bishop, was great! He really made sure that everyone on the boat had the same experience no matter which side of the boat you were on. The plantation tour was very interesting too.

Value for money was great. The Swamp Tour was the highlight of the day. We saw numerous alligator and the captain shared good information about the surroundings: wildlife, vegetation etc. Plantation tour was also very informative. Bus driver was very very pleasant and interactive. He made several recommendation about the city or New Orleans: things to see and things to avoid.

Our transportation guide (Big Joe) was very informative and drove safely. The ride to the swamp was a little bumpy. The swamp tour more than met our expectations. The history at the plantation was awesome. The tour guides were very professional. Leisure time to explore the grounds area made you feel back in the time.
