What people are saying about New Orleans
This was a very enjoyable swamp tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed his information very much. He always let us know when there was something special to see and gave us plenty of time to see it and take photos. The boat was easy to walk around on to get views from every side. There was a small restroom on board. We saw alligators, raccoons, big turtles and a crane. He tossed marshmallows to the racoons so we could see them scamper to pick it up. The scenery was beautiful, and he told us about the indigenous trees and rooting systems. He told us how weather and temperature play a big role in what animals we might see. He brought along 3 different sizes of crawfish, and a baby alligator with a rubber band around its mouth, for us to hold. He demonstrated how to hold it gently, and supervised closely. I remember him telling us the baby alligator was in his cooler with a warm water bottle, and it was obvious he cares for his creatures. I highly recommend this tour.
We loved the boat tour of the bayou! We were disappointed though by the lack of organization or information that we experienced after arriving at the dock and prior to boarding the boat. Upon arriving at the dock, we were encouraged by a man who came on board the shuttle to visit the gift shop and use the restroom. That was fine but then there was no information for nearly 30 mins after that in terms of where to wait or how long we would be waiting. Eventually we figured out where we should go by asking around, only to wait a long time. It just would have been nice to know we would have to wait for a while and where we should expect to wait. Our tour guide was excellent. The pick up and drop off by Gray Line was satisfactory.
So, for our anniversary, we scheduled a 10 day trip to the New Orleans area. During the planning stage we came across this tour. "Sounds like fun; let's do it." We had a great time. The scenery was awesome and the guide was even better. He knew this swamp and its residents like the back of his hand. He made it most enjoyable. If you've got two hours, take the journey. If you don't have two hours, find 'em then and take it anyway
Amazing little trip around the bayou! It's a reserve to protect the swamp, and the creatures that live there. We saw alligators of various sizes, soft shelled turtles. it was absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this to anyone who visits New Orleans, and definitely book their offer to drive you to LaPlace and back, it is a long trek, but reasonably priced.
In addition to my above comment, might add there was a lot of empty time in the tour? We did not get onto the boat until more than 45 minutes after we arrived. After the boat ride, we hung around for 35 more minutes before we left. We were a small group and I did not think that much time was needed for those in need to use the facilities.
