Full description
Enjoy a day visiting the 2 most famous archaeological sites in Campania! You’ll leave from Pompeii in the morning by deluxe motor coach on this full-day tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

When you arrive at Pompeii, you’ll have around 2 hours to tour the archaeological excavations of this commercial center that was buried by the Vesuvius eruption. Discover the conditions and the contexts of ancient life that was suddenly interrupted during the night between 24 and 25 August 79 A.D. when 5 meters of lapilli and ash buried this city on the Campanian coast.

You’ll have free time for lunch before continuing on to Herculaneum.

When you reach Herculaneum, the other city buried by Vesuvius, you’ll have around 2 hours to explore the excavations. Unlike Pompeii, which was a thriving commercial center, Herculaneum was a quaint residential coastal town.

On the return journey you’ll stop at well-known cameo atelier. Please note that this tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility as it involves a long day of walking around excavations sites.

Informative and fun

A really good way to see the ruins, especially Pompeii which was very busy on the day we were there. Alex knew how to avoid the worst of the crowds so that we could see much more of this large site. I was blown away by the lesser known Herculaneum too. The only downer on the day was when the driver who was supposed to take us back to the pick up point in Positano, refused to drive into the town and simply dumped us at the wrong end of the town leaving us with a long walk and steep climb at the end of a long day.

Unmissable trip!

Collection was very prompt - all drivers were very courteous and helpful to those who were less mobile. Guiseppe, our guide was great value - very knowledgable, he cut us through the long queues by bulk buying our tickets (entrance to the two sites is extra on the day - 22 euros) and brought both Pompeii and Herculaneum to life as we went round. He uses wireless transmitters - you wear it around your neck like an iPod and use an earpiece, and he talks into a wireless mike as you go around, so you don't miss a thing he says. Despite the pouring rain, it was the highlight of our stay on the Amalfi coast. Highly recommended.

Great way to visit these sights if staying in Praiano

It seemed easier to book this tour as they pick up from Praiano and included transport and a guide (not ticket entry). Plus it is a good way to see two sights. It was a whistlestop tour though. 2 hours in Pompey and 1.5 in Ercolano. So not for you if you want to spend longer. The advantage of being with the guide meant you got to see the highlights quickly and efficiently. Alessandra was very informative and interesting, and took care to answer all our questions.
