What people are saying about Nagano
The two guides were both extremely friendly and looked very well after the group. The tour involved a train trip of about one hour, a short bus trip and a 30 minutes walk to the valley, where the snow monkeys live. The snow monkeys are cute fellows, fun to watch and well behaved compared to other monkeys I have come across in South Africa, Singapore and on Bali. After visiting the snow monkeys our group had a delicious lunch at a historic restaurant nearby. The black and white building with the wooden interior and its low doors was magnificent. As Nagano is the apple capital of Japan the restaurant served an apple juice that really lived up to the expectations - probably the best apple juice I’ve ever had. The visit of Zenkō-ji, a wooden Buddhist temple in Nagano was amazing. Thank you to the guides for the many interesting information provided. The Sake tasting took place in a lovely place, was brief, but highly informative. I learned a lout about Sake. Kampai !!
One recommendation: I am 79 years old (nobody believes it) and in great shape but the hike into the Jigoku Dani was treacherous given the weather. In your literature, you say there will be a 'significant amount of walking'. THAT doesn't describe what a person really faces on that walk and could seriously compromise somebody of my age. As it was, I fell twice and Eva was good to take off her crampons and put them on me which was a big help to walk in the snow - which had fallen on a layer of ice. Eva was very warm, caring and full of information. I recommend her highly.
Visiting the snow monkeys certainly was one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. Amazing to see. The visit to the Zenkoji temple was a nice bonus. Our guide Peter was very knowledgeable which made it especially interesting. The organisation was incredibly smooth. Apparently we had an unusual big group of 15 people, but this did not feel too many at all. As it was a week day it was not busy in the Snow Monkey park so you had plenty of space to watch and enjoy.
Peter was fantastic, he was so helpful, You gave us the wrong information and the tour guide went looking for us as Get your Guide gave us the wrong meeting place. After the fiasco of waiting for over an hour and Peter found us, he made us so welcomed and apologetic and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour as he was so knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you Peter.
Louki was a great tour guide - so friendly and knowledgeable of the area and Japanese culture and history. She did a very nice job hosting our group. She has a very pleasant personality and she was very helpful to me to make sure I had a warm coat and boots so I wouldn't slip on the trail.
