CHINA through the looking glass was fabulous...fabulous...fabulous! The fashions, the sets, the music. I wish I had rearranged my schedule to spend a day at the Met. My twin sister and I have been fashionistas since childhood. "Who did you go with" question has no Adult sibling box. Checked closest "By myself." We had a 4-night, 5-day Hudson Valley trip (flew into Albany & out of NYC) so we added 2 nights in NYC to see the new Whitney, go to One World Center's observation floor, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's CHINA exhibit.
I was hoping for a full scale Abstract Expressionism, 'got' just 1 De Kooning and 2 Rothkos - and a room full of (ugly by me) Picassos. I think it was just luck of the draw - a friend of mine, at different time, saw a room full of De Koonings.... Still, one of the best expositions I've ever seen - recommended always!
I definitely recommend this gallery for enthusiasts of modern American art. The building is spectacular with excellent views of lower Manhattan and the Highline from the various balconys. Booking on GetYourGuide allowed me to use the (much) shorter pre-buy queue.
It went smoothly. I walked right up to the help desk and they printed me a ticket after looking at my phone. I'm not sure if that's how it was suppose to work but it did for me. The museum itself was worth the $25.
While not as long as the regular ticket line, there was still a bit of a wait. Though so worthwhile! The staff was most helpful as well.
