Full description
The splendor of Muscat is best experienced through an engaging trip past its monumental mosques, vibrant markets and beautiful merchant houses.

Beginning with a drive through the Embassy Quarter, you will head past the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, with its incredible Islamic architecture. Your guide will point out the highlights of this monument before heading to Muttrah, a peaceful and vibrant quarter of Muscat. Here you can stop by the fish market for a look at the daily sales, and stroll along the Corniche, past old merchant houses and lovely side streets. There's plenty of chances to catch a good deal shopping here, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for that perfect souvenir!

Continuing the walking tour, you head to the Old Town, where you can pass towering Portuguese forts (Jalali, Qasr Al Alam, and Mirani) as well as the Palace of HM Sultan Qaboos. You will also have a chance to visit Bait Al Zubair Museum, which is a wealth of information of the country's structure, tradition and heritage. In the end, you will have a far deeper understanding of this incredible capital city, before parting ways to continue exploring on your own.

100% recommendable, great half day tour

Rasheed, our guide and driver, picked us up at the hotel at 8:30 am and drove to the large mosque first, so that we could avoid the tourist storms. On the way he and already told something about the country and its people in very understandable English. Afterwards we drove to the harbor with fish and vegetable market and souk as well as to the Al Zubair Museum and finally to the palace, where we could learn a lot of interesting things. A thoroughly successful morning! Around 1 we drove him back to the hotel. We would recommend the tour to everyone!

A worthwhile activity for an overview of Muscat highlights

I really enjoyed this. Having a local guide is excellent as his knowledge was good. The car was comfortable. Unfortunately, it was Eid al Adha and this meant places were closed. No one could help that, but perhaps a not on the booking site would have meant we would have chosen a day later in the week. Overall, it was a very comfortable and informative day.
