What people are saying about Mount Vernon
From the beautiful, historic town of Alexandria, following level terrain along the Potomac river with some wooded sections with modest hills. This was a ride that we were able to do, even though my wife and I are aged 70, with histories of knee and hip surgeries, and our granddaughters ages 8 and 12. Ending with a tour of the home of George Washington and visit to the tomb of the first President and his wife. At the tomb, because of my military service, I was asked to read Washington's prayer to the nation and lead the visitors in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our granddaughters were asked to lay a wreath. Finally, slow boat ride back to Alexandria within steps of our car. A fantastic trip.
Not enough upfront information - had to call twice to find location of the boat as telephone number on the e-ticket was incorrect therefore received wrong info. Called another number night before the tour and fortunately Cassandra was most helpful giving the correct info. Luckily we were staying on The Wharf had we been staying across town things would not have worked out. Also no indication that the boat trip took 1-1/2 hrs each way not leaving enough time to fully enjoy the mansion and gardens.
Price Dion , our tour guide was very good. He made everything really interesting with a enthusiastic attitude. Also, after finding out that my father was to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery he and his company went the extra mile to present me with a case for the flag which was draped on my father's casket. This was a true gift of kindness. Thank you
Edgar, our guide, was excellent. Very knowledgeable, friendly, personable and funny. The time on site at Mt. Vernon needs to be about 30-40 minutes longer for a proper visit. We rushed through everything and had to skip some of the museum exhibits. Did not make it to the gift shop either.
The trip was very organized and everyone was kind and helpful. We have many freedoms in this country and thanks to George Washington, one of our founding Fathers, we were able to travel to Mt Vernon and walk where he may have walked. It was amazing!
