Top attractions in Montego Bay
MoBay, as it's affectionately known, brings the reggae spirit to its world-class resorts, gorgeous beaches, and historic landmarks. Here's a round-up of the best sightseeing and recreational experiences in Jamaica's most scenic city!
Built in 1770, the house is said to be haunted by the ghost of Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall! If that gives you the creeps, don't tour the colonnial mansion by night!
The bay began attracting tourists in the 20s when a British doctor declared that the water here had healing powers! Does it? All we know is that the scenery is as dazzling as ever!
Near Doctor's Cave Beach is the city's "Hip Strip." Nowadays the shops are dominated by souvenir vendors, but it also boasts some of the city's best cafés, bars, and art galleries.
The picturesque river is one of Montego Bay's top attractions. Relax on a bamboo raft and learn about Martha Brae's history and wildlife from a local guide.
If you're here for a romantic getaway then Sandals is the place to stay! Guests get free access to the pristine island beach, complete with jacuzzi, pool, Thai restaurant, and bar.
Hummingbirds descend on you upon arrival at this immersive bird sanctuary! It's home to thousands of exotic and endemic species, many of which guests can feed by hand.
The restored mansion grants visitors a glimpse at 18th-century plantation life. Tour its antiques, sugar mill, and tropical gardens, then finish with a traditional Jamaican lunch!
The temperature around Montego Bay is consistently warm year-round, but don't be fooled by the huge hotel deals throughout the summer! April until November sees Jamaica at its rainiest, and it's also prone to hurricaines. Winter is Montego Bay's peak season for a reason, so be sure to book your trip with plenty of time to spare!
Jamaica has a relatively high crime rate, but it is largely limited to certain urban neighborhoods. For the most part, the people are incredibly welcoming, and you'll have nothing to worry about at the resorts. If you choose to leave the tourist areas for whatever reason, stick to reputable tour operators and avoid flaunting your valuables.

What people are saying about Montego Bay
Since both Dunn's Falls and Nine Mile are a long drive from our Montego Bay resort, combining them made good sense and with just one other coupe picked up in Och Rios we could set our own pace, stop for pictures along the way and delete the commission generating shopping that was not supposed to be in the program anyway. Our guide Jesse did a very good job as did our guide a Dunn's River Falls. Our cell phone had a waterproof case and that is a necessity if you want your own pictures. Nine Mile was not what we expected (if you want to learn about Marley and or Rasta you better do your own research on the internet), but Mr. Crazy (check him out on YouTube) is entertaining to say the least and if that is what pot does to you, legalizing it is a big mistake. The drive into the mountains is a great way to see the countryside. Lunch and dinner were fine but had we skipped dinner we could have done the luminescent lagoon earlier and had as good a meal back at our all inclusive resort.
We felt that Patrick was an awesome guide. He was prompt, figured the best way to get close to the port terminal so my mobility-impaired father-in-law easily reached the car. He watched over the drive and managed to avoid MOST of the pot holes on the way to the sanctuary - no easy feat! Plus he managed our time and let us know gently when it was time to head back. We LOVED Rocklands and thought the two gentlemen who visited with us and took photos with our cameras were just great. We didn't have a PLETHORA of hummingbirds come to land (one of the other hummingbirds was a bully!) but we had enough to make it interesting! I would go back and enjoy the lovely patio and gorgeous Montego Bay view.
The Narrator was excellent enjoyed the humour , The young driver was punctual ,kind & helpful took care of us felt confidently safe with him , his driving skills made us feel relaxed & at ease , attentive to our needs helpful young man proud to have had him as our driver especially when giving us a tour of Montego bay City in the thick of traffic he was excellent & knowledgeable & willing to impart what information he knew, we returned to the hotel in the time allocated , if & when we return we would be happy to have him to be our driver, he allayed any fear or anxiety after my concern a bout the legitimately of company having booked on line randomly but it turned out well on the day
Me and my wife went zip lining which was awesome the we we went water tubing which was great the guides at those two were exceptional the we went horseback riding which was only 30 mins and I thought it could of been longer then we had to wait another 2 and a half hours and wait on the other group that was riding the atvs don’t think it was fair cause we spent all that money mainly for the horseback riding that’s all she wanted to do then we sat on the bus and had to wait on everyone else that was the only downfall
Wonderful experience, would definitely do it again and recommend to others. Tour guide was excellent kept us all entertained during our journey there and back with the country history & quiz games, really lovely man. Horse guides all were excellent, make my 8 year old daughter and us feel comfortable, relaxed & safe the hold time, all we’re friendly and constantly kept us entertained, which was wonderful. The experience lasted just over 2 hours was definitely worth the money.
