Top 10 things to do in Miami

With a relaxed beach life and Cuban-bred passion for partying, this Floridian metropolis is a pastel paradise for people watching. And animals too! Here are Miami's top 10 attractions.

Fisher Island

Fisher Island

Home to superstars and the mega-rich, the most affluent corner of the US isn't open to just anyone, but you can get pretty close to Fisher Island on a boat tour of the bay.

Miami Seaquarium

"Flipper" was filmed at the US' oldest oceanarium on Virginia Key, but there are more creatures at the Miami Seaquarium than just performing marine animals – aquatic and otherwise!

Gator Park

Gator Park

Gator Park is the place to go if you want to see alligators, of course, but take an airboat tour of this Everglades attraction for snakes, turtles, and exotic birds too!

Miami Museum of Science

2015 sees the grand reopening of Miami's leading science museum, but this is Miami so there are animals here too. Check out the bird of prey center!

South Beach

South Beach

Home to the famous Ocean Drive, the first part of Miami to be developed is arguably still the most... well, Miami-ish. South Beach remains one of the city's best beaches too.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Once known as Villa Vizcaya, this opulent estate is now open to the public to walk around and think about moving there upon winning the lottery.

With exhibits catered to the young (and young at heart), this is a great place to take the family, especially if your children are averse to regular museums!

Zoo Miami

Zoo Miami

Miami's climate makes it the ideal location for the only tropical zoo in the US. For a small fee you can even feed the giraffes!

Miami Beach Architectural District

Miami Beach Architectural District

This historic district of Miami Beach is sometimes referred to as the Art Deco District. No prizes for guessing which style of architecture dominates its postcard-perfect streets!

With art from the Renaissance to the present day, the city's leading gallery occupies Miami Beach's old public library building.

Planning Your Miami Visit

When to go?

The city's basketball team is called the Miami Heat for a reason. The tropical monsoon climate means it's always hot, although you can expect thunderstorms in summer and hurricane season runs for as long as June to November. Nevertheless, it's perfect for sunbathing in winter!

How many days?

Most of Miami Beach's best attractions can be covered in 3 or 4 days, but book at least a week if you want to see more of the city and/or go to the Everglades.

How safe is it?

Despite its depiction in movies, much of Miami is pretty safe. Like most cities though, it has parts tourists would be smart to avoid. High-crime areas include Biscayne Boulevard, Liberty City, Opa-Locka, and Overtown. Unlike the others, you might have reason to go to Miami's Downtown district, but stay alert, especially after dark.

What people are saying about Miami

Great trip, well worth the time. Amazing guide Kenzo!

KSC is a great spot to dive into United States culture. It's the place that serves no other purpose than benefit of the whole mankind. No other place like that in the world, closest to the Moon you can get, at the moment :)

Miami: Kennedy Space Center & Outlet Shopping Reviewed by Dmitry, 02/19/2019

It was fun to see the city with someone who knows the city

We got to hold the baby gator and tour the city in one day which it will not happen without join the tour. It’s well worth it. However the communication about the schedules could be improved. Ps. The tickets doesn’t include the entrance fee to the park or taking pictures with the gators. It covers only the transportations so be prepared to pay more about $5. If you don’t want to eat gator meat, make sure you eat a good breakfast. We did tip the tour guy well because they are Hilarious and knowledgeable about what they are doing which make our vacation a magic.

A bird and alligator filled airboat ride.

We were able to view dozens of birds and alligators from our airboat. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made for a wonderful experience. We also enjoyed the show after our boat ride and got to hold a baby alligator.

Relaxing way to see sites and learn about Miami!

This boat trip was worth every penny! Love the history and our guide was full of humor. He made it very interesting. The houses, yachts and the views are amazing! A must do if you are in Miami!

THIS is the tour to choose! Enjoy an authentic & personal experience.

We are locals and over the years we have had many visitors who we have taken out to the Everglades for "air boat tours." If only we had known sooner that there was SUCH a dramatic difference between Everglades Nature Tours (ENT) and all the others. First, the personal service was assuring and they were all so kind and welcoming (even spoke to a person by phone to confirm we were in the correct meeting spot and she stayed on the phone until our host, James, arrived). Second, the smaller airboat meant that we were not in a group of 12 to 20 or more but on our own boat that fit six or seven at most (we had the boat to ourselves with a group of 5). Third, our tour guide, Lorenzo was AWESOME! He knew just where to take us as he had been spotting for wildlife all day already. He shared his extensive knowledge about plants and animals in a friendly and interesting manner--he was just himself! I will book this tour again in a MINUTE. None in our group wanted the tour to end. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
