What people are saying about Matamata
Being a huge fan of the LOTR and Hobbit trilogies, having read the books and seen the movies multiple times, this tour was a must for me. Even though she had never read or seen any of these, my beautiful wife Di agreed to accompany on my quest. The greatest part of this experience was that Di loved it as much as I did, although probably for different reasons - the whole being in the movie location, for me; and the beautiful rolling hills and stunning scenery for Di. We had a lovely relaxed and very filling lunch and our guide Charles was a font of knowledge. I cannot recommend this experience enough - I’d give it six stars if I could!
Had a fantastic day with my 7 year old twin mokos. Started with the bus ride with a video and some background into the land and movie then a lunch buffet for all 3 of us (under 8s dine free with paying adult) then walking tour with a great tour guide who was very accommodating and patient toward my mokos (25 July 120pm buffet tour) Many interesting facts you wouldn’t know about the movie. A very worthwhile $118NZ spent for a day of memories with my mokos. Thank you so much
Our guide David was excellent. We managed to get out early to catch the sunrise (and some beautiful photos) of the Matamata area around Hobbiton and were the first tour of the day (nobody else to get in your shots!) The New Zealand scenic routes were fantastic to get a taste of New Zealand outside the larger towns and David's tips were extremely helpful for where to go and what to look for at each location.
The place was nice and great to have a walk around and take photos. The downside of the tour was that it was too short and too fast-paced so we didn't have enough time to take the photo as we needed to follow the group that we belong to. The tour guide's voice wasn't very loud so it was difficult to catch what he was saying. Other than that, it was nice and kids were also enjoyed.
If you don't have a lot of time left and you're in hurry, go for this trip and you shouldn't be disappointed! Right, everything was kinda rushed and I just wish there was more time in Rotorua but c'mon, there's no other way to see these all places in barely one day! The guide made sure everyone is safe and sound and on time.
