What people are saying about Matamata
The description needs to be more specific in terms of where the tour starts. We weren't the only people that went to the wrong place. That being said, once we got to the right place, late, the staff were extremely understanding and accommodating.
A wonderful asset for Matamata and NZ. There were so many overseas visitors who were clearly enjoying the tour, it was just as much pleasure watching their enthusiasm. As with every second visit, there was an element of "been there, done that" but we were very struck by the eloquence of our tour leader (she had a British accent) and an answer for every inquiry. Sorry, can't remember her name, but she did you guys proud. Hot day, the Pub stop was welcome at the end. Well done, you made me proud to be a NZer
Just one thing - I was disappointed that there were no hobbit characters there - in their gardens, or peeking out of their windows - or hanging out their washing. That would have made it perfect. But thank you, I enjoyed it immensely. Oh, another thing. Parts of the walk were potentially dangerous (cliff edges, etc) but I don’t recall hearing or reading any safety warnings about that. Thanks.
What a wonderful experience! It is like being inside the shire with lots of hobbit holes complete with washing on the line, smoke coming from the chimneys, and symbols of the hobbits occupation such as cheese, fishing gear, fresh bread, and a wood stack shed getting ready for the winter. Finishing off with a drink at the Green Dragon Inn. The staff were very nice, highly organised and welcoming.
I would recommend this tour with Andrew any day. Thanks a ton for making our trip fun.
