How many days should you plan for a Marrakech desert tour?

Tours of Marrakech's picturesque desert vary in length from a single afternoon to an adventurous five days. To help you pick the right option, here are some of the best things to do on each.

1 day

Enjoy a camel tour through Marrakech's rural palm groves, race over the dunes on a quad bike, or even do both! Either way, be sure to stop for tea at a traditional Berber village.

2 days

Take in the scenic delights en route to Zagora - among them Aït Benhaddou, an ancient city that has been the backdrop to Hollywood movies from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Gladiator."

3 days

Trek out to the Sahara's famous windswept dunes at Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga, spotting wildlife by day and camping Bedouin-style beneath the stars at night.

4 days

From Aït Benhaddou, detour through Ouarzazate – "Door of the Desert" – and continue over the Atlas Mountains through the historic village of Tamgrout and Irqui National Park.

5 days

Take in all of the above and throw in hikes along the breathtaking Todgha and Dadès Gorges, as well as smaller pleasures like flamingo-watching and traditional music shows!

What's the weather like?

What people are saying about Marrakech

One of the best experiences in our lives!

An amazing trip! Our driver was excellent, everything is well organized and the camp in the desert is comfortable and clean. The only thing we didn’t enjoy at all was the hotel where we slept the firs night. Rooms are very old and it was very cold. Don’t pay the supplement, rooms are all the same. Anyway, the whole experience is something to do once in life. When you see the sunset on the top of the dunes, you easily forget the horrible hotel in which you slept the night before!

Breathtaking adventure. A perspective you'll never forget.

I would call it a road trip rather than a desert tour (desert is definitely a highlight but only a very small part of the tour). Very good organised and a lot of Programm!! I wouldn't recommend it for elderly people or young kids due to the long ride and bumpy streets. And don't expect too High Standart in the desert camp ;) all in all a fantastic experience.

The best New Years Eve I have ever experienced in my life!

Absolutely brilliant! It is a long journey from Marrakech so you have to be aware of this but there are plenty of rest stops. It was also cold at night (as expected during winter during the desert) but bearable and very impressed by the camp (very good set up). Dancing the night away with the Berber people around the fire with new friends I had made along the way was an experience not to be missed.

Great and exotic experience to see the desert

Great and exotic experience to see the desert. A long drive over the mountains but interesting to get to see the life in the desert towns and villages. Small multicultural group in mini buss and got a lot of new friends! Good guides and driver.

Amazing magical experience with excellent company

Had the best time ever on this tour, and the partner company are really good. There is a lot of driving, but worth it for the sights you see. Prepare for a cold night on the second night, when in the desert, but also a wonderful experience with the camels, food and music. Ando Travel (the tour partner) were a great company and we had a great driver called Mohammed. Definitely one of the best things we’ve done.
