Full description
Lavapiés is one of the most artistic zones of Madrid and is filled with small & independent theaters, alternative cultural centers, traditional stores & walls decorated with colorful street art. Close to all the main attractions of the city but not really touristy itself, Lavapiés is a really old neighborhood representing colour, art, multiculturalism, and local life. Lavapiés mixes both the old and the new, the tradition and the avant-garde.

Meet yout guide at Puerta Cerrada Square (close to the Mayor Square) and explore first the northern part of the quarter, visiting places such as Cascorro Square, San Cayetano Church, and Ambassadors' street.  Learn the neighborhood history and the origin of the Flea Market that takes place here. Continue towards the most multicultural area of Lavapies and visit the Nelson Mandela Square,  the old fountain of Cabestreros, the ruins of the Escuelas Pías, and the central square of Lavapiés.

Visit the Old Royal Tobacco Factory that has been turned into a modern and contemporary art museum, the Queen's Casino Park and the most popular street of the neighborhood: Argumosa Street. On the way, pass by old cinemas and theatres, hidden museums and alternative cultural centers, ancient churches, local markets, secret gardens, some of the most traditional examples of Madrid's architecture (corralas) and lots of art.
