Full description
Escape the hustle and bustle of Funchal on a full-day scenic tour of the west of Madeira. Following pickup from selected hotels in Funchal, pass through the traditional fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. Continue to Cabo Girão Skywalk, Europe's highest cliff skywalk at 589m. Next, make your way to Ribeira Brava and head north through the deep and narrow valleys of Serra D'Água. Upon arrival at Encumeada at the top of the valley, enjoy an incredible view of the south and north coast of the island. Cross a mountain pass, where both sides of the island are visible, and travel down to the rugged beauty of the north coast, where Atlantic rollers deposit white surf on the cliffs. Traverse Madeira's highest plateau, and enjoy more spectacular panoramas. Next, go to São Vicente on Madeira’s north coast. Visit the beautiful village of Porto Moniz. Here you will have approximately 1 hour for lunch, as well as some time to admire the volcanic swimming pools. Continue to Paul da Serra to see one of the biggest natural reserves in the world. This tour was fabulous. The driver picked us up around the corner from our hotel and talked us through the landmarks from start to finish. We had lots of view stops so plenty of opportunities to see the beautiful island of Madeira. Had lunch at a lovely restaurant for a fixed price as part of the tour. Our driver was fantastic! Would definitely book more tours with this company if I was here longer

Brilliant tour of the west of the island of Madeira. Roberto was an excellent driver and guide, and how glad I was that I wasn’t having to negotiate all those narrow, vertiginous hairpin bends. Roberto kept us informed as to where we were going, how long it would take, not to mention where the loos available en route were. He was also a mine of information about local flora. The trip does take 8 hours plus but this includes a half hour stop for morning coffee and a 90 minute stop for lunch. A two-course lunch at a particular restaurant can be ordered in advance via Roberto at a very reasonable price, which makes life easy. Funchal is enchanting but it’s really worth taking this trip to see more of the island of Madeira and its amazing landscape. You do need to be reasonably nimble to be able to get in and out of the vehicle at the various stopping points. Sit on the driver’s side of the vehicle for the best views.

Top rate guided tour of the west side, with a very knowledgeable guide who spent just the right amount of time imparting information. We had adequate time at each stop to take photos / get refreshments etc and nothing felt rushed. I would highly recommend this tour to those people who want to see the best of the west, and who are nervous of driving the hairpin mountain pass roads themselves. This took a lot of the stress away from organising a day out yourself, and it was brilliant value. Thank you very much!
