Full description
Your 4.5-hour tour begins at the train station in Lucerne, where you’ll board a bus for a 15-minute ride to Kriens. In Kriens you’ll pick up your ticket for the rest of the tour.

Head to the 4-seat Panorama Gondola to ascend to the mid-way station at Krienseregg. In another 15 minutes you’ll reach Fräkmüntegg. Finish the journey to the summit of Mount Pilatus on a thrilling 5-minute aerial cable car ride, known as the Dragon Ride.

At more than 2,000 meters above sea level, you’ll have spectacular views over the Lake Lucerne region and the Alps. You’ll also have some free time for a bite to eat or a walk around the area.

Then you’ll board the world's steepest cogwheel railway for the ride down to Alpnachstad, passing lush meadows carpeted with Alpine flowers, sparkling mountain streams and fascinating rock faces.

In about a half hour you’ll arrive at the valley station, where a ship will take you back to Lucerne.

We arrived at the train station and had trouble finding the number 1 bus. We could see all the other buses but not that one. We asked someone at the cafe and he said we have to go downstairs to go under the street to the other side and come up. It would have been nice to have those details ahead of time or a map, but not a big deal. The bus ride was easy. We missed our stop but the bus driver helped us when he turned around to go back the other direction. Btw kierns is a different stop than Pilatus on this bus. Get off at kierns. When we walked up the hill, we had to wait in a long line to exchange the tickets. The gondola ride was really beautiful and quiet. Lots of photo ops. We didn't go all the way to the top because of my husband's ears were in a lot of pain from the altitude. We stopped to take photos at the Zipline activity and then turned around. We asked if we could still go on the boat ride, but they told us it was too late for the boat ride so we didn't get to do that.

Wonderful sights!

We purchased a golden round ticket and found the whole experience easy to achieve. Lucerne was cloudy so we were a little disappointed, but we came out of the cloud during the cable car ride and it made for the most spectacular views. The whole experience was great, just note that the boat stops at different docks along the way back to Lucerne, so it takes around 90 mins.
