Full description
Learn the basics of Louisiana Cooking with cajun and creole chefs teaching New Orleans specialties such as Gumbo, Jambalaya and Pralines, seasoning them with history, trivia and tall tales.

The chef will share the fascinating history of New Orleans, and how culture and cuisine are interwoven. Follow along and learn how to make mouth-watering creole and cajun dishes and dig in after the class. At the end of the class you will receive a coupon to use in the general store and are encouraged to go home and try to make the dishes yourselves. 

The general store, as well as the classroom, are both located in a renovated molasses warehouse built in the early 1800s in the heart of the French Quarter. The store has a thoughtful collection of the best locally-sourced products and is the home of the famous Joe's Stuff Creole Seasoning, used and loved by local chefs and visitors alike.

I was very impressed by the chef and how well he handled the number of people in the class on that day. The food was as good or better than the top restaurants in New Orleans. The class started and ended on time, everyone had a full meal with soup, entre, dessert and a praline. The Chef’s skill and personality was very entertaining. Wish I could remember his name.

The whole experience was an absolute JOY & one of the best things I have ever done! It's a FUN setting with a very informed instructor who spoke in a colorful & humorous way. I learned so much about the history of New Orleans, along with important information about the food & food preparation, & then we ate generous portions of the DELICIOUS, fresh home-cooked food! We had enjoyable interaction with the other guests at our table & I even made a new friend! There's also a great general store connected to the school where one can shop for wonderful items and gifts. I feel confident in attempting the recipes (which they give us) at home. This was a GREAT value & I HIGHLY recommend this!

My Wife, Mother and I had a fantastic time. We learned some interesting things about the different colors of roux, and why a certain color and flavor goes with various dishes. It was very interesting to learn that a dark roux does not mean it is burned, but that if done correctly it is more rich in flavor. The chef had plenty of good stories to tell from him growing up with his grandmother "mawmaw" and his grandfather as well as how different dishes came about throughout the history of Louisiana. Very interesting indeed. Also the food was very good especially the shrimp and artichoke soup. My wife and I bought the seasoning from the store and the other ingredients and we will be making the soup tomorrow. The crawfish etouffee was a bit bland, but I'm guessing the chef kept it that way because of the crowd of people we had, to make sure it wasn't to much for those who may not be used to flavor (lol). The pralines were very good and it was interesting to see how it is made. Wonderful!!!!
