Full description
Your day begins at São Jorge Castle, at which point you are the first guests of the day to enter. After coming to grips with the historic roots of the city, wind your way up the castle walls and witness breathtaking views over the city’s hilltops - the perfect introduction to the scenic day that lies ahead. Lisbon has a variety of viewpoints covering the city, but the panorama from the Santa Luzia viewpoint (Miradouro Santa Luzia) is one of its best. Soak up the scenery before delving further into the city’s history at the Sé Cathedral. Take in its imposing exterior, before skipping the line inside where you can climb up to the Cathedral’s Bell Tower, admiring the ancient bronze bells accompanied by spectacular views of the Tagus River below.

By this stage the city's impressive tile-work is bound to have sparked your curiosity. Travel inside an authentic tile workshop, seeing exactly how these tiles are handcrafted by artisan makers. Following that, take a guided tour of the Downtown Baixa area throughout which your guide points out some of the more unique tile-works throughout Lisbon’s most recognizable areas. These range from Rossio Square to the Old Port, with a stop at the Santa Justa Lift included. As lunch time approaches, your guide is happy to provide you with plenty of recommendations on where to eat.

Following lunch, travel by train to save time by avoiding the traffic to arrive to Belém in a matter of minutes. Belém is the very place where the Age of Explorations began in Portugal during the 16th century, and there’s no building more immersed in this history than the Jerónimos Monastery. Following the monastery, unravel the significance behind Belém’s key monuments including the Monument to the Discoveries and Belém Tower, as your guide fills you in on key details most visitors tend to miss.

Finally, conclude your day by taking in the sights from the water. Journey back to the city center on a guided river cruise, passing the April 25th bridge, the MAAT Museum, and the Christ Statue along the way. Whilst onboard, be treated to a mouthwatering pastel de nata, direct from the region it was created in.
