Full description
Your experience begins as you meet with your driver and guide before departing from Lecce. Upon arrival in Galatina, you'll begin a private guided tour. Galatina is a beautiful town of Salento, rich in Baroque art and important monuments. You will visit the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, one of the most beautiful basilicas in southern Italy which was built in a Gothic-Romanesque style. You will also visit the clock tower, the sedile, and the ancient city gateways, before you depart towards Soleto.
You will soon arrive in Soleto, where history and art lovers will have the opportunity to visit the Byzantine church of Santo Stefano. There you can stroll among the alleys of the village to admire the Orsinian spire and mother church. Following this exploration, you will be provided with a break for lunch.
Following lunch you will depart for Corigliano d'Otranto, where you will take a guided tour during which you will discover the Messapian origins of this fascinating town. You will have a pleasant walk during which you will admire the Mother Church of San Nicola, the Lucchetti Arch, the Castello de Monti, and the Palazzo Comi.
You will later depart towards Melpignano, which is known as the village of the taranta, the local traditional dance. It is at this location every year that the great event of "the night of the taranta" takes place. Your tour guide will take you to discover the village from Piazza San Giorgio, before proceeding towards the Mother Church of the Palazzo Marchesale De Luca and the Minonna Menhir. Eventually, your tour will conclude with your return to Lecce.
