We booked for the activity for 3 March 2019. The tour was excellently organised. The driver/guide was funny and professional. Picked us up on time from our hotel doorstep. The ride in the specially designed 4 wheel drive in itself is spectacular. Started off with the snowmobile. This is an experience not to be missed. Combined with the fact that on the day there was quite a bit of snowfall, wind and limited visibility, made it even more of an adventure. May be a clearer day could have given us a panoramic view but you cant have it all I guess. Never know with the Iceland nature though, where you see all 4 seasons in a day, Stay longer and you might actually get both. The only negative about the ice cave was that the poor weather blew the lighting inside, but nevertheless it was still good. Last the secret lagoon is amazing. They managed to maintain the authentic setting in nature. Never been to blue lagoon, but a natural looking pool would be my preference over a commercialized one
The stops along the tour were fantastic. All the guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The waterfalls are simply stunning. We couldn't take enough photos. The only downside to this tour is the van ride. It was a smaller tour with 14ish people so we were in a van rather than one of the large tour buses. You will spend about 5 hours driving and the van ride was uncomfortable. Little seats and bouncy suspension. The glacier cave was beautiful. They provide waterproof over suits and boots for you. Lunch was a stop at a buffet along the route. It was nice but I would suggest you bring a snack for the road. After lunch we visited 2 waterfalls in the same area... stunning is all I can say. On the way back to the city we made a couple more stops, very short, mostly for restroom breaks.
Bjorn was a fantastic guide, he seemed to be having as much fun as what we were. He was knowledgeable, friendly and definitely an asset to the team. The trip itself was amazing, loved the sites we got to see, the ice cave was good although I would have liked to have got to look at the 'blue' that was so enticing at the back of the cave although I know this is not possible for my own safety. The snowmobiling was just unreal, loved it so much, would loved to have gone faster and further but I understand as a novice to it my safety comes first which was evident throughout the trip too. All in all, the price is high but the experience is out of this world.
Our excursion was actually changed in advance to only a snowmobile trip due to flooding in the ice cave :( We were given the option to cancel, but what fun would that be? The guides were very knowledgeable and the snowmobiles and outdoor weather gear were in good shape. The guides were helpful and very careful to keep an eye on all members of our group. Since our group included people with varying skill levels, we were only able to explore a small section of the glacier in the time allotted. It would be great to be able to join a group with only more advanced riders in order to make the most of the day.
James who picked us up from the Reykjavik Lights hotel Friday 16th Feb was the best, if it wasn’t for James we would never have got to enjoy our day...... how he got us there after Gullfoss I will never know, big pat on the back James and thank you to all the team for looking after us on Friday. I have posted pics on Facebook to show All at home how much we enjoyed our day as well. Thanks again to all Wayne and Mandy Packman
