Full description
Discover the wonders of traditional Japanese gardens on this unique and insightful 3.5-hour walking tour around the temples of the Nanzen-ju Zen Monastery. Meet your friendly guide then begin your journey to learn about and understand the cultural significance of the gardens.

The first temple of the day, Konchi-in, is closely connected to a central figure in Japanese history and has a stunning shrine dedicated to him on the grounds. Learn about and admire the temple’s exquisite architecture and gardens, as well as the beautiful paintings that are housed here.

Next, visit the Tenju-an temple and wander through 2 profoundly immersive gardens that evoke the essence of a forested fairytale world. As you stroll through the garden, you’ll feel as though you are a million miles away from the stresses of everyday life and begin to embrace the zen way of life. Finally, head to the main temple of the monastery, the Nanzen-ji temple, home to an apparently never-ending collection of magnificent courtyard gardens.

As you will undoubtedly visit several shrines, temples, and gardens on your holiday in Japan, this experience will equip you with all the tools you need to better understand and enjoy these experiences and locations.
