Full description
See magical areas of the temple that are normally closed to the public on a private tour for up to 10 people. Founded in 778, the mammoth Otowa-san Kiyomizudera Temple has a long history spanning over 1200 years. Among the grounds, which spread over 130,000 square meters along the mid-slope of Mt. Otowa, stand 30 monumental Buddhist buildings, including the iconic Main Hall.

Visit places closed to the public with a temple monk such as Kiyomizudera guest room, Bussokuseki (Buddha's footprint), Garden of the Moon, the Sai-mon, Hondo Naijin (Inner Temple Main Hall), and the Main Hall. Though the entire roof is currently undergoing maintenance works, you can explore the renovations.

Listen closely to your English-speaking guide as they explain in detail, the history of this holy place. Since its foundation, most of the buildings have been destroyed by repeated fires. Many of the buildings standing today were reconstructed in 1633.

Round off the in-depth tour by hearing why, in 1944, Kiyomizudera Temple was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List as a Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto.
