What people are saying about Kyoto

We had a wonderful day traveling through some of the most beautiful temples and shrines in Kyoto. Andrew arranged the route based on our interest and by location, so that we could use the time efficiently sightseeing and not in transit. He had many interesting insights to share at each sight: on its history, references to mythology, art, and the philosophy and practicality of gardening and landscape architecture. Overall a wonderful trip and great value for money. We can absolutely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Kyoto outside of tourist masses and the few top seen sights!

As a man, this was such a fun experience. When I checked in, I think the (male) receptionist was a bit shocked to see it was only me, but he handled it with care and I didn't feel embarrassed at all. The photoshoot itself only lasted about 10 minutes, but they do offer to take some personal pictures with your cell phone. (So you don't only get the professionally shot photos advertised!) They also have an option to go to a private shoot in a home, but the cost was like $400 or something. Something to consider if you really want to have an extra special experience.

Kyoto: 2-Hour Maiko Makeover and Photo Shoot Reviewed by Nathan, 03/26/2020

This demonstration lasted about an hour and change and took place in a Buddhist temple in a traditional setting that included paper walls and tatami mats on which we sat. Our host, Marcy, was very proficient and set our small group of five and two small children at ease. Not only did she prepare macha for us to sample but explained the ritual in detail and answered our many questions. Afterward, we sampled Japanese sweets and made our own tea from macha powder with a whisk in large tea vessels. It was a charming experience.

Kyoto: Tea Ceremony Ju-An at Jotokuji Temple Reviewed by Joe, 12/26/2019

We were given a background of all the places we went to while we were still at the bus. Then when we reached the sites, we had enough time to explore the places on our own. Our tour guide, Hiromi, was very knowledgeable and sweet. She spoke English well. In addition, the bus ride was very smooth and we were able to rest while we were in the bus.

No one else arrived, so we ended up with a private tour. The guide was very kind, and very knowledgeable. It was a great, authentic-feeling experience! Great value for money. I would recommend for those seeking a cultural experience.
