This demonstration lasted about an hour and change and took place in a Buddhist temple in a traditional setting that included paper walls and tatami mats on which we sat. Our host, Marcy, was very proficient and set our small group of five and two small children at ease. Not only did she prepare macha for us to sample but explained the ritual in detail and answered our many questions. Afterward, we sampled Japanese sweets and made our own tea from macha powder with a whisk in large tea vessels. It was a charming experience.

Amazing experience!! You get to make your own matcha tea (and eat some sweets as well). You'll be taught the history of tea and tea cerimonies in Japan as well as it's cultural significance. You can also buy your own tea set. The hostess was also very knowledgeable and eager to explain every details of tue ceremony

Masumi performed a wonderfully executed sample of Japanese Tea Ceremony. She touched on many aspects of this interesting facet of Japanese culture without getting too esoteric and bogged down in details. Perfect for the traveller interested in 'tasting' a bit of high class Japan.
