Enjoy a full-day private hotel pickup and guided tour of a section of the Great Wall that best fits your interest, personality, and/or physical level.
This is the most classic hiking route on the Great Wall, taking about 5 hours to complete a distance of 10 km from Jiankou section to Mutianyu…
What people are saying about Jiankou
It’s a really challenging, but rewarding hike. I don’t have much hiking experience prior to this, when I started the hike I was pretty scare when I saw those big, high stones and extremely steep pavements. I took my time to go through it step by step, literally. I wasn’t rush to complete the hike, and we took breaks when needed. It felt really good to have overcome that, knowing that you can achieved anything as long as you overcome the fears that you carry with you. The group was small, 4 person and 1 local guide. He speaks fluent English, very friendly, detailed oriented and shared a lot with us on not only about the Great Wall but also experiences he had. I would highly recommend this hike if you’d like to see the contrast of the original Great Wall and the restored part of the Great Wall. Also if you appreciate Great Wall at its truest form, and nature.
This is a one-way bike and starts with a medium-difficulty mountain hike to the first portion of the Jiankou wall. Once at the wall, some minor climbing is required. The Jiankou portion isn’t for the faint of heart, but you will be rewarded and most everyone can pull it off. I highly recommend this over an out-and-back from Mutianyu with all the tourists. Bob was my guide and he was wonderful. He showed us the way, took a ton of photos for us, and showed us a great time. I will say I think this is a bit overpriced, but I did nearly get a solo tour (only one other person joined) so from that perspective it was nice. Highly recommended.
Overall the experience and the hike were great and my tour guide Bob Chen was awesome! I think most people would manage to finish and also enjoy the hike as it wasn't that physically demanding. Finally, In my view this might be a bit overpriced (as another reviewer has also noted before) but I had a solo tour, so the cost made more sense, compared to if 3-4 more people were also in the group that day. Would recommend it, for sure!
I was by myself, since although it was a perfect day for hiking, it was in the middle of the week. The hike is a little bit tiring, but absolutely amazing views and so unusually peaceful (almost no other people for 3-4 hours, unlike the crowd atmosphere at other Great Walll sections. If you are fit and want to do something different in Beijing, you should definitely try this trip.
Bob Chen was an excellent tour guide to walk with us throughout a 10 km hike. The trip was amazing and I want to do it again with my kids in the future. I hope that Bob Chen would be our tour guide again.
