Full description
Depart Hobart and travel alongside the beautiful River Derwent, Tasmania's second longest river. Passing the black wwan breeding ground at Bridgewater and the historic town of New Norfolk while listening to stories of old Tasmania. Catch a glimpse of the rich farmland carpeting the Derwent Valley, which hosts crops like cherries, hops, raspberries, and grapes.

Arrive at Mt. Field National Park and head to the visitor centre to check in with the rangers before embarking on a 2-hour forest hike. Take a 20-30 minute stroll under beautiful tree-ferns and lush rainforest to reach Russell Falls, widely regarded to be the prettiest waterfall in Tasmania. View the tiered waterfalls from three different viewpoints. Climb the stairs up to the top of Russell Falls for stunning views over the valley. Hike on to reach Horseshoe falls, a tranquil u-shaped waterfall in the midst of a forest clearing.

Continue on to check out the giants of the forest. Get up close and personal with the Eucalyptus Regnans and Swamp Gums, the tallest flowering plants in the world, which have been growing since Able Tasman named Tasmania in 1642. Enjoy a coffee, beer, or wine at the visitor center cafe before making the drive back to Hobart.
