What people are saying about Ho Chi Minh City
We had a lovely time On tour with 4 and 6 year old in tow. We were joined by another family which worked well as we both understood that things happen at a slightly different pace. The first stop to the workshop was interesting and while it appears a bit of a ‘tourist trap’ there was no pressure to buy anything. Cu Chi tunnel tour was fun, interactive but very hot. The lunch was enjoyable however I think it would have been better if just one drink was included (we had finished our bottle and had limited cash to buy drinks - Once we got back in the car we were given more drinks). Next stop was the Mekong delta and it was great that all the food trying was included. The only pressure we felt to buy/tip was on the small boat ride - it has been explained they didn’t get paid much but we had limited cash and the lady kept asking for more. My tips would be to take some extra water (and snacks if you have kids), and the right cash for a drink at lunch and to top the people on the boats.
The tour was absolutely amazing. We had a fantastic tour guide who was really knowledgeable in the history, culture and background of the sites we visited. She was constantly giving us information and fun facts as we were going through the tour and continuously checked in that we were all comfortable. Cu Chi was an eye-opening experience - definitely recommend going through the tunnels with the local guide as it completely changes your perspective of what the Vietnamese went through during the Vietnamese/2nd Info-China war. The visit to the Mekong Delta was also really enjoyable, with a variety of sights and stops involved. Massive plus from my side was that I forgot my sunglasses on the tour bus and was able to pick them up first thing in the morning the following day before heading to the airport! Really good service.
Steven was our host and tour guide for the day. He was brilliant, had a great energy and while he had to remain focussed to keep the day on track, he was also relaxed and able to have some fun and chat with all of us. He was very professional, he did the tour company proud and gave it a good name. On this basis we would recommend the company and day tour! Some times these days can loose energy, especially towards the end, but Steven kept us informed about what's coming next so we could keep looking forward and he was full of information throughout the day. He had an entertaining way that kept they day light and fun too. And between Steven and the driver they always made sure we had refreshments etc.
Really enjoyed this tour, the car was very comfortable and got us everywhere ahead of schedule (unheard of here)! The two main stops provide a lot of the history of Vietnam at Cu Chi and how the people live their lives now at the Mekong River. In between there are a couple of stops for local art projects, candy makers and honey producers and while they are all opportunities for the local people to sell their wares there is no pressure and seeing how they produce these products really is an enlightening insight into the local culture. Would definitely recommend for anyone with limited time looking to fit a lot in, it was perfect for me as I was here for work and only had one day for sightseeing.
Tour guide was funny - you need thick skin though! Bring a change of clothes if you're doing the tunnel crawl. Only issues were the stops at the Lacker place - seems like a bit of a cash grab (same as coconut place, but that one was a bit cooler). The other thing was that the trip includes ~5+ hrs of driving and you don't drink booze in the limo as the picture would have you assume. However, the tours are really cool and the guide was hilarious!
