Full description
Start your tour with a walk through Barber’s Alley, an alleyway that’s home to a fantastic street art project as well as independently owned pubs and restaurants. Hear the story of Papito, who founded a community project to revitalize the alleyway. Once a barber, Papito was concerned about the at-risk youth in his neighborhood and wanted to give them the means to make a living and stay out of trouble. After opening a school for them, Papito encouraged his neighbors to open local private businesses, that could bring revenue to the community.

Hop on a taxi or private bus (depending on the size of the group) and head to the eye-catching Fusterlandia in the Jaimanitas neighborhood. See houses which have been colorfully decorated with ceramics. This art is apart of a community project lead by local artist Jose Fuster, the “Cuban Picasso.” Marvel at Fuster’s Gaudi-inspired murals. Hear Fuster’s story and visit his intricately designed mosaic house and art gallery. You might even be able to meet a member of his family.

Visit the Muraleando, a cultural program in the Lawton neighborhood. Directed by Manuel Mario Diaz Baldrich, the Muraleanado provides workshops and activities for children, teenagers, and the elderly. Walk through the neighborhood and find murals painted by local and visiting artists, including a mural by Peanuts creator Charles Schulz.

After touring the community with some of the residents, enjoy some live music by a local band. Taste a traditional Cuban lunch along with a special local drink. The tour ends back at the meeting point, but before you go be sure to ask your guide for tips on things to see and do in Havana.
