What people are saying about Hangzhou
I wasn't sure when I booked this 4-hour tour for my wife and I whether it would be part of a larger group, and it was the first time I had used Get Your Guide. In the event, we got a private tour with Tommy guiding us, and a driver and car for the duration. We were due to meet them at 12.30, but when we texted the company from our train into Hangzhou to check meeting point, they immediately asked for train details, and Tommy met us as we arrived before 11.00 ... and proceeded to entertain us till 17.30, so we can't fault the value for money! He crammed in a West Lake walk and boat trip, a drive to the tea plantations (with a super lunch reconmendation), description of tea cultivation, visit to a tasting centre (no pressure, though we did buy some green tea) ... followed by a walking tour of a beautiful lakeside garden, and city market streets, then he left us at the venue for a Night Show we had booked.
our guide was very knowledgeable, lots of insights on China itself. A great tour to get a feeling of Hangzhou and want you to go back to spend 2 days and a night there to include some hiking in the mountains. Our guide stayed out of the busy tourist attractions, going to the actual farmers restaurant, with only chinese eating there for a total of 30 Euros for 4 persons, very fresh food! then to the tea plantations we went to a small farm, no other tourists than ourselves. Then for the temple, he chose one no tourists go to. we were the only ones, was very interesting and we felt very lucky. Driver and car and train were excellent, a great way to visit Hangzhou with no stress and worries.
The guide was waiting in the lobby on time. With a comfortable car we drove to the West Lake. A tour with a ship on the lake enabled us to see the many treasures. Then we drove to the famous Buddhist temple to admire the caves with the figures cut out of the stone and the big temple area. We received a freshly prepared lunch from a local family in the tea village on a terrace, overlooking the tea plantation, just a few km from the West Lake. then we visited the green tea plantation. We received very interesting informations about green tea. In the late afternoon we visited the traditional old town. It was a really interesting tour. The guide spoke perfect English.
Early start to get train tickets, great ride on rapid train. Hired car in Hangzhou took us to several sights with Annie our guide providing informative commentary. A highlight was the Tian Zhu Temple where Annie told us about Buddhist beliefs then encouraged us to have vegetarian lunch in the complex. After some free time in the shopping street we finished the afternoon at the West Lake until time to return to Shanghai. On arrival we got instructions to the Bund and finally to our hotel by the subway system.
