So if you book your tour through this site, a few things to know - the "3-hour rental" is not actually a 3-hour rental of the GoCar, it's the "accessibility" of the car from 9am to 12pm. But the office in SF doesn't open until 9am, then you have to fill out waivers and other paperwork, then wait in line, then watch a safety video, then get fitted for helmets, and if you're lucky, you'll be in your GoCar by 10am. The GPS-guided route we took was super fun and informative, and allowed us to see things in SF in a memorable way. Remember to bring an extra sweatshirt as there's typically a marine layer along the coast that can make it pretty chilly in the morning. The route was long, even without stopping, so we didn't get back to the drop off until after 12:00. We would've had to pay extra but the manager waived it for us since we had such a late start (thank you!). I would do this activity again but will probably rent for the day next time so we won't be pressed for time.
My husband kinda chuckled when he saw these and learned this was what we were doing... it became his FAVORITE thing we did our entire trip! The audio with gps is worth $10... best history of anything we did. We didn’t want to be with the other 4 cars so we got to the front and took off and had a BLAST! We got to see all over San Francisco on our timeline so we stopped to explore more where we wanted to and skipped other areas we didn’t care to have more time.. we even took a detour into China’s town to try Dim Sum from the locals and it was well worth it- we used our gps when we we were close and then to get back on track- it was super easy! We also loved that the lady talking to us could’ve heard at all times without any struggle - the put a lot of thought into creating this experience... if they have these in other countries we Will Defiwntly be doing this again! Worth it! Also, sign up for 9 am so you get the 3 hours for 2 hour price! Worth it 100 PERCENT!
A must do if you like to be independent and away from group tours. Bike to Salsalito. Steep climbs can be handled in first gear. Take water. Spend the day shopping in Salsalito or take bus from Salsalito 30 min. to Mier woods. The woods are ok but very big tourist stop. Fun if you want to get out of the city for the day. 3 mile walk at the Woods or more if you like. If you are tired eat at the best burger place in the world in the oldest building in Salsalito then ferry back. We biked back because in the am it was cloudy when we crossed the bridge and we wanted another look.
The Golden Gate/Presidio route was great (do not expect to go over the Golden Gate though, it's obvious why!). If we had had more time, we would have alsone done the City route. It's great fun, but do watch you don't end up accidentally getting on a steep, unintended road. Overall awesome, great service and easy instructions to follow - great for family of 4!!!
Best way to see all the site's. Get the car for the day so you can get out and look around. Two to three hours is not enough time. Worth the cost you pay. Our family had a blast with teenagers must be able to drive great activity for them not to be right under the parents. A must do while you are in SF.
