Stutthof was the first Nazi concentration camp outside the German borders and was established in 1939 only 34 km from Gdansk. Originally the camp was mainly designated for non-Jewish Poles who were being forced to undertake backbreaking work. In 1942, this place became a concentration camp and grew in size and population.

New barracks, a gas chamber, and a crematorium were included in the extermination zone. The number of people killed is estimated to be 85,000. The Stutthof camp was the last liberated camp on May 9, 1945 by the Soviet army.

Today, the museum gives visitors the possibility of getting to know the terrifying facts of WW II and commemorate victims of the genocide which took place 80 years ago.

The Stutthof Museum makes barracks of the new and old camp, the main commandant's house, the gas chambers, the crematoria, and the memorial to Nazi victims available to visitors. Permanent exhibitions are completed with documentary films about camp's history and the period of Nazi occupation on Polish territories.
