Full description
Meet your expert 5-star tour guide at the entrance of the museum where your adventure begins. Built more than 750 years ago as the headquarters of the Capitano del Popolo (Captain of the People or chief of police), the Bargello was later transformed into the most horrifying jail in Florence before finally being transformed into one of its most spectacular museums. This building has witnessed fires, floods, and riots. It also played a key role during the conspiracy against the Medici clan which began in 1478.

Today the museum hosts one of the most impressive collections of Florentine sculpture in Italy. With your guide, discover the magic of the Renaissance and learn about Brunelleschi’s greatest failure which later led to his most incredible success. See the fresco where Dante Alighieri’s face was painted for the first time in history. Feel the dark atmosphere of a medieval prison and enter the chapel where prisoners said their last prayers before execution.

See the famous masterpieces by Donatello, the sculptor who revolutionized art in Florence, and enjoy the stories about his statues of David and St. George. See masterpieces by Andrea del Verrocchio and Michelangelo Buonarroti. Admire sculpture by Giambologna and Benvenuto Cellini, creator of the Perseus statue in Piazza della Signoria, and learn about the process of making bronze sculptures along the way.
