What people are saying about Fes
The drive is a destination in itself through ever changing landscapes. Pleasant stops along the route. Chefchaouen is indescribably stunning. A feast for the eyes.
Before embarking on the walk, I had expected it to be the same as Marrakech...I couldn’t have been more wrong. Our guide took us to see Fes from a height so that we had everything in perspective when in the narrow streets of the Medina. He was very knowledgeable and went to great lengths to explain the history and relevance of each point of interest. In addition to the guide, we also got a driver, so the guide was 100% focused on us. The trip started promptly at 09:00 when we were picked up from our hotel and finished around 3pm. Even then, the guide offered us the opportunity to explore ourselves or do some shopping. We declined and he phoned the driver, who was waiting locally. He took us straight back to the hotel as requested. The guide was very welcoming, warm, knowledgeable and not in a hurry to end the tour. All in all we found it great value for €40. This was irrespective of whether you were a family of 5 like us, a larger party or a single/couple. Strong recom
Everything worked out as planned. Our guide showed up at our riad and began the long drive to Merzouga. He stopped whenever asked for photos and gave us options for lunch. On the return journey he purposely took us to a different lunch location so we could try different foods. The tour in the desert was great, the camel ride was a cool experience and the tagine dinner was excellent. The tents were surprisingly comfortable and warm. It's a long two days in a car but it is so much more comfortable than an overnight bus (the only public transportation option). I also did a fair bit of research and this was the best price I could find. If I had more time available I'd probably do it differently but on a time crunch, this was perfect! The only negative was that the driver didn't stop at the apes on the way there for some reason and on the return journey it was pouring rain so he said they wouldn't be out to see. The only disappointment in an otherwise perfect tour.
The Roman ruins is a must see and also the hilltop town of Mouley Indriss. The royal city Meknes was good also but the Médina did not compare with Fes. Overall an excellent day.
Our guide was excellent. He was funny and very informative. He took us to every corner of the Médina explaining its history. He asked us what we wanted to look at to buy and he only took us to those places. A guided tour of the Médina is a must to truly experience it
