What people are saying about Ferragudo
We didn't really know what to expect and as there were a few boats coming and going collecting people that morning we werent sure which one was ours.. until I noticed the parrots id seen in the advert for the trip! Once on board we were soon off, introduced to the friendly parrots, with a chance to hold them and take pictures with them... we had some good music playing, offered an ice tea foc or you could buy drinks (not a bar as such). The boat was more like a small converted fishing boat and if you needed the loo there were steep steps down to a small *very* low down toilet which you had to flush but leave paper in a bin.... ok in some cases but i wouldnt like to get caught out needing anything solid if you catch my drift!!!! Its a traditional boat, not a pleasure boat, but that added to the experience so we were happy. The weather was perfect and the scenery was breathtaking - we cruised alongside caves, some that you could go into and out the other side with little beaches.
The experience overall was great. No messing about and straight out into the water. Two things that could've been better: firstly, we of course knew that other boats would be using the waters but it really wasn't made clear the proximity at which this was, which amateur kayakers will really find unnerving. I can't stress this enough, especially as you're entering caves with approaching boats in a space hardly big enough. Also, at the start of the journey, it was very unclear which direction we had to go in: some people shot off in one direction while other groups headed for a nearby cave. This meant that organisers had to split up and get groups back together, which could've been avoided. Saying that, Jaoa(?) was an absolute breath of fresh air. He made sure we felt safe and reassured every step of the way and made the entire experiece a thousand times more enjoyable. Overall, a great experience. The caves were impressive but it was jist nice to be out on the waters.
My friend and I visited the area in August 2019 - the height of summer. The tour itself was great. The boat trip along the coastline was fun and relaxed and the guilds were friendly & professional. However the caves themselves were crowded with over 100 people - everyone seemed to be there - which isn’t a fault of the tour but still made it less enjoyable. Small boats and other kyaka groups were all after the same caves and routes & made the waters rocky and difficult to navigate. I would recommend this tour, but maybe off peak or early in the morning as the crowds on the water and in the cave made the experience less enjoyable. Also take a waterproof pocket for your phone!!
Host were excellent and nature at its best. It is one of our best 2,5 hours spent, this trip is worth every penny. Ice tea was served in the boat, as complimentary. Loreonzo did excellent explanation and Miguel had excellent sense of humour with total control on the boat. All in all, one of the most memorable trip.
The best activity of the week, the guides were extremely friendly, they looked after us very well. The cave tour was brilliant, the guide told us interesting information about each cave, we had time to visit a beach within a cave, and had a fantastic ride on the boat there and back. Would definitely recommend!
