Highlights
  • Admire dolphins in their natural habitat
  • Learn about dolphins and other local wildlife from your marine biologist guide
  • Marvel at the views over Ria Formosa Barrier Islands
  • Search for different species of cetaceans like dolphns or even orcas and whales
Full description
Discover different species of cetaceans, birds and other marine life on this exciting experience in the Algarve. Leaving from Faro, cross through Ria Formosa Natural Park towards the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the views of the Barrier Islands (Deserta and Culatra) or the marshlands as you cruise to the coastline.

Once you reach the water, spot wildlife such as dolphins, whales, and porpoises, and if you're lucky maybe come across a pod of orcas or fin whales. You will also see birds such as gannets and shearwaters flying overhead. When it comes to fish, spot species such as ocean sunfish, blue sharks, and tope sharks, as well as a few marine turtles. A team of two marine biologists will help you find as many species as possible during your time on the ocean, and give you facts and information about the fauna and the surroundings.

After spotting a group of dolphins, enjoy 30 minutes free to watch the group. Feel free to ask any questions regarding dolphins and other marine life to one of your guides and take the opportunity to learn more about how biologists collect data for scientific research on dolphin populations. Once your observation time is over, return to Ria Formosa and cruise back to Faro.

I cannot say enough positive things about this tour!! We did see dolphins which was amazing, but even if we had not the tour was extremely enjoyable and worthwhile. The guides are incredible, they are a wealth of information regarding the region’s marine life and we learned so much from them. They are happy to answer questions and are so passionate about the subject and about conservation. They are not simply a tourist operation, they are studying and researching, and sharing everything they observe and learn with you. What a truly great and memorable experience, worth every penny!!

Great tour with two super dedicated and friendly marine biologists who research dolphins and thus enriched the tour with an incredible number of facts, stories and details. We discovered dolphins immediately after leaving the lagoon and accompanied them with several interruptions. The knowledge of the animals on the part of the guides was particularly impressive, which allowed them to get very close to the animals without, however, pressing them in any way. In addition, thanks to their observations (based on birds and water movements), our guides were able to lead us to a huge bonefish, which we could then observe for a few minutes before returning to the dolphins. All questions that we or the two other tour participants had were answered in detail and with a lot of background knowledge. Consistently a great experience that we would repeat every time with these two guides!
