Frankly, this was one of the most amazing tours I've ever had in my life. Said Zaoui was a very personable, fun and knowledgeable guide and shopping together at the local markets, taking a walk through the narrow streets and then having lunch and tea together was just a very unique experience that we're going to remember for a long time. We loved being taken off the beaten paths a little (the Jewish Quarter was really worth visiting) and in general the day felt just like a stroll with a friend. The tour takes longer than three hours (I think it was more than 5 hours in fact) but we weren't bored for one minute. We only had very limited time in Essaouira and taking this tour helped to make our short stay very special.
Our driver Abdelillah was so lovely! Always smiling and made us feel very welcome. The journey on the way there is broken up nicely with stops at a cafe, viewpoint and Argan oil cooperative. The scenery is beautiful and keeps you entertained for most of the time. We had around 3 hours to explore the medina after eating lunch. Which is so much more relaxed than Marrakech. Would recommend this tour if you want a day trip to the beach. However it was quite a lot cooler than Marrakech....24 degrees and cloudy. So you may want to take a coat and if you’re wanting to swim in the sea it is quite chilly!
We were unsure about a camel ride at all, as we didn’t want to see any animals being mistreated or badly kept. But we were reassured by reviews and decided to go for a one-hour ride. It was an excellent choice and we had a great time. We didn’t see any evidence at all of bad treatment. As it was only an hour trip, the scenery wasn’t very inspiring, but we did get down to the beach. The guide was good at taking photos and we were offered mint tea back at the stables.
Said was amazing! He took us on a wonderful tour. We learnt so much about the history of Essaouira and its culinary traditions. He was really engaging and took us through the Médina to the Port where we bought fish for our lunch followed be a walk through the fresh food markets. We had our it all prepared and cooked in a local cafe where the locals go.
Such a fun experience! Moustafa was a fantastic guide. He knew all about the plants and the history of the region. He was so sweet to his camels. We could tell he really loves them and takes good care of them. He kept kissing their noses to get them to listen to him and they did! Highly recommend this tour. Try to get Moustafa as your guide!
