  • Marvel at the natural beauty from the famous Route 40
  • Surprise yourself with the breathtaking views at Cerro Fitz Roy
Full description
Immerse yourself in Argentina’s dramatic landscapes and take in panoramic views of mountains, glaciers, and lakes. See the nature that played a major role in Darwin’s and Fitz Roy’s research and discover Argentina’s youngest village, El Chatén, founded in 1985.

Start your full-day tour with a pickup from your hotel in El Calafate. Take the legendary Route 40, which runs alongside Lake Argentino with its blueish-white glaciers.   Cross the Santa Cruz River and hear about Charles Darwin’s and Robert Fitz Roy’s expeditions. Continue to La Leona River, and stop at La Leona Roadhouse, where you can learn the history of Route 40 over a coffee and homemade cake. Walk along the edge of Lake Viedma and see the breathtaking peaks of the Andes mountain range, including Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.

After your 3-hour journey, arrive at El Chatén, located in the Southern Andes in a valley where the rivers De las Vueltas and Fitz Roy meet. Admire the young village’s surroundings within the Los Glaciares National Park. Then, decide to either to hike along self-guided trails or remain in the town and enjoy some free time.

If you choose to hike a trail, the tour guide will provide you with a map, a lunchbox and advise you on the different trail options to best suit your fitness level. Throughout the year, you can enjoy two short trails to Chorrillo del Salto and Mirador de los Cóndores. From October to April, you can also choose a trail that will take you to Capri Lagoon. If you prefer to stay in El Chaltén, you can enjoy a relaxing period of free time and explore the town.

At 5 PM, start your journey back to El Calafate, arriving around 7:30-8 PM. Enjoy a convenient drop-off at your hotel after a full day of discovering Argentina’s nature.

The day is well timed but long. It allows you a choice of a short hike or a 8Km round trip with moderate to challenging track. The bus picks you up at your hotel or dwelling at about 9-9:30 am thence you travel the 220 Km to El Chaltén (with one stop) then arrive just after 12:30.pm The only downside is the lunch box provided - suggest yo get something more appealing and take it with you.

There were two problems when I tried to apply from the WEB. 1. No matter how many times I entered the address of the hotel where I stayed, I got an error, and I couldn't copy and paste. (The address will be contacted later because of an error. Select and proceed to the next.) 2. Even if the credit card information was entered on the payment screen, an error occurred and could not be processed (both two types of credit card error) I did not pay even after doing the above, so if I gave up I was wondering when my voucher was sent by email late at night the day before and when I applied, I was prompted for the address of my stay by email and emailed me Even in the morning on the day of the reply, I received an e-mail for an address reminder, so I called the local tour company from the front desk of the hotel, picked up the hotel safely, and joined the tour. We were blessed with the weather and were able to spend a lot of fun. I thought it would be easy to understand if I wrote it on a

They are 240km from Calafate, so you have to prepare for approx 3 hours each way. There are two trecking options. An easy one to a waterfall and a viewpoint, and a “difficult” 4K one way to the viewpoint of the Fitzroy hill and the lagoon. I made the "difficult" one that is not so much if you are in relative form. They give you “lunchbox” food. Beyond transport and food, there is no further guidance. The guide stays on the easy route and those who climb the difficult route do not accompany them. I had no problem with this because the tour says it is free hike, but several people complained because there are several roads and they were afraid of getting lost, which, having made the way, is not entirely unlikely. The landscapes and trecking, spectacular !!!
