What people are saying about El Banuelo
OK so this is not a substitute for on-foot exploration, although I imagine that some of the riders abuse it as such....! It is tempting to just ride in circles and never get off because the stops are FAR APART. [NEEDS FIXING, GYG] AND THE SEATS NEED PADDING AS WELL! Very bumpy ride in some spots, a bit of a rollercoaster feel sometimes, and yes, there are accidents. That said, I used this as my transport around Granada to explore sights and areas that piqued my interest. The 'audio tour' is lame, it lags behind the driver so you can a. miss your stop and b. miss seeing the attraction described. THAT NEEDS FIXING AS WELL. All of this said I would STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. The Corte Ingles bonus 'TAPAS AND GLASS OF WINE' on the receipt is hard to make use of; they are too far from the line to be a quick stop, [in fact I could not find it.] but do jump on and off and give yourself time to explore both sides of the line as the up and downhill are on different sides.
We bought the ticket one day early online. It was easy and cheap ($12 Euro for one day, two people (one senior). When we arrived in Granada we easiliy found the nearest stop of the train. The first one was full, so we waited for the next (maybe 5 minutes) and that one had plenty of room. We first toured the whole route then got off at Alhambra. For the rest of the day we got on and off shopping or touring and then getting back on. We never waited more than 10 minutes and every train had plenty of space after that first one. Yes it's bumpy - yes it's noisy - if you want an airconditioned rubber ride then get an expensive tour. It was very convenient, the map was excellent and the drivers were polite and patient. As always, a little Spanish is very helpful.
I enjoyed the city train during a full day and visited the most important spots of the city of Granada as the Alhambra. There is a train every 20 minutes and you can hop on and hop off at any stop. The personal at the Plaza Nueva is super friendly and helpful. You get a leaflet with the routes and stops and also headphones for the audio guide for free. There are four seats per row although it is best to sit maximum three persons per row. I recommend the train to anyone visiting the city of Granada specially to reach to the Alhambra hill.
Very enjoyable way to see Granada. I loved the little train look of the carriages and was impressed how it converted to electric when needed around the older parts of town. Great how it winds it's way through the old narrow streets and up through the Alhambra area. Numerous and frequent on off stops. A great way to save the feet. Would recommend doing a trip in the day and the night to see the city differently.
The train was a convenient way to go around Granada. It will take you to the main sights including that of Alhambra. I booked for 1 day coz I had only 1 day to see the city and I was able to roam around and take pictures of several attractions of the city.
