Full description
Sit back and relax as you escape deep into the countryside. Take you back in time to the seat of the High Kings of Ireland at the Hill of Tara.

First stop of the day is in the small picturesque fishing village of Howth. Drive through Howth Summit where you can appreciate spectacular views looking out over Dublin Bay. Let the fresh sea breeze invigorate you before heading to the countryside via the coastal route.

Continuing to Newgrange, this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site is dated 3,200 BC and is one of the oldest and largest Neolithic burial chambers in Europe predating the Egyptian pyramids. Older than Stonehenge, for 5,000 years the ancient megalithic tomb at Newgrange in County Meath has housed the remains of Stone Age ‘aristocracy’, sheltering the spirits of the long dead from the outside world. As part of your experience, you will be taken on a guided tour inside the tomb of Newgrange.

The Hill of Tara was once the ancient capital of Ireland. It was here that the King of Ireland was decided. Legend says that stone called the Lia Fail cried out when the true King touched the stone. Why not visit the Hill and touch the stone and see if it cries out. Though best known as the seat of the High Kings of Ireland, the Hill of Tara has been an important site since the late Stone Age when a passage-tomb was constructed there. Tara was at the height of its power as a political and religious centre in the early centuries after Christ.

Newgrange tomb turned out to be pretty small inside, but the magic in the place is real. Hill of Tara is also a magical place. I was so lucky because of the beautiful weather. Do bring windproof and waterproof coat and shoes. Leave whatever you can in the bus. The tour guide will stay at the parking lot. Another guide took us inside the tomb. But most of Newgrange and Tara are to be explored independently. The bus is convenient but the phone charger in my seat was not working and the wifi too.

Was very pleased with our tour. Trevor our guide and Huey our driver we're both courteous and knowledgeable. Another tour had been recommended to us but was fully booked. I am so glad that we were informed of this website and that we were escorted by these two gentlemen. We arrived before large crowds and although we were on a large bus it did not feel as if we were part of the masses. I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide and driver - Trevor and Alan - were top notch. Trevor's jokes enlivened the tour throughout the day making the journey as enjoyable as seeing the sites. We beat the crowds to Howth on a sunny Saturday so got a chance to enjoy the town in relative peace. Then had guaranteed entrance to Newgrange which is not provided by all tour operators and was needed on the day we visited. Would have hated to drive all the way out there only to be turned away! The Hill of Tara was fascinating, but most of all it was a vantage point for a beautiful 360 degree view of verdant Irish countryside. Out lunch was meh, I would say the weak point of the tour. I do recommend this tour. See if you can get Trevor and Alan if possible.
