5 attractions no Dublin day trip would be complete without

We'd recommend doublin' your time in the Irish capital, but if you really do have just a day to spend here, you'll have some great craic (pronounced: crack) working a day tour around these five Dublin faves!

Christ Church Cathedral

St. Patrick's is also worth touring, but if your excursion coincides, don't miss medieval Christ Church's choral evensongs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends.

Phoenix Park

Europe's largest walled city park is home to Áras an Uachtaráin–home to the Irish president. You can also enjoy a wander around the People's Gardens and the old Magazine Fort.

Dublin Castle

This unusual castle off Dame Street is worth visiting for many reasons, not least because its garden was once home to the Dubh Linn (dark pool) that gave the city its name!

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham is the place to visit if you want to learn about Ireland's struggle for independence. Now a museum, many significant revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed here.

Dublin Writers Museum

In a city of exemplary museums, you might only have time for a quick one. Why not immerse yourself in its great literary reputation by learning more about Joyce and Yeats, et al?

Planning Your Visit

How to get to the city center from Dublin cruise port?

The cruise port is just over a mile from the city center, and there is an express bus service that should only take about 15 minutes. Visitors can also take the number 53 public bus, pick up a cab at the taxi rank, or even take a hop on hop off bus directly from the terminal for an easy jaunt around the sights and then back again!

How to get around?

Dublin's public transport system can be pretty tricky for newcomers to grasp. Fortunately, most areas of interest can be reached pretty quickly by foot. If you really plan on cramming a lot in (and can afford it!) then you'll have no problem hailing a cab. Be aware, though: as well as the initial fare, an extra euro will be added on per passenger.

What people are saying about Dublin

Great experience with great driver and tour guide

We had a wonderful day tour to the Cliffs. Tara, our guide was funny and told us loads of interesting anecdotes. We had enough time at every stop we made. Tanvir, our driver did his job very well, too. We are happy we did this tour even though we only came for Dublin!

Great day trip to the Giants Causeway from Dublin

Our tour guide Daniel and our bus driver Andy were organized and fun. Very nice guys overall. Daniel gave us a lot of information about the various areas and the history of Ireland. He also put on an Irish 'concert' on the way back -- guitar and songs! Fun! Felt very safe with Andy driving! He did a great job! Would definitely recommend this tour company again. Thanks for a great day!

Breathtaking views, tons of fun facts, and fabulous driving!

Irial was a fantastic guide and Andy was a superb driver! Irial told us a lot of interesting facts, he was very light-hearted and funny and we enjoyed his commentary. Andy maneuvered us safely along the Wide Atlantic Way and drove very well! The only downside - no USB chargers on the bus. Our first stop was to a ruined Monastery, which was great as we were the only tour group there. Then we headed for the Cliffs of Moher. The weather cooperated with us - it was sunny, but windy. There was mud along the way to the cliffs so it was sometimes a bit tricky to get up and over. The view though was fantastic! Next we headed to the Baby cliffs and the Burren. The terrain was unique. After that we went to Galway city and had THE BEST ice cream ever at Murphy’s during our free time to explore the city. We recommend the Dingle Salt! While we headed back to O’Connell street, Irial was very kind to give us all sorts of recommendations and gave some local tips for our stay in Dublin!

Great experience that made us beautiful memories.

Very nice and funny guide, Tara. If you will go with this girl, you won't stop laugh ;)
