5 attractions no Dublin day trip would be complete without

We'd recommend doublin' your time in the Irish capital, but if you really do have just a day to spend here, you'll have some great craic (pronounced: crack) working a day tour around these five Dublin faves!

Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral

St. Patrick's is also worth touring, but if your excursion coincides, don't miss medieval Christ Church's choral evensongs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends.

Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park

Europe's largest walled city park is home to Áras an Uachtaráin–home to the Irish president. You can also enjoy a wander around the People's Gardens and the old Magazine Fort.

Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle

This unusual castle off Dame Street is worth visiting for many reasons, not least because its garden was once home to the Dubh Linn (dark pool) that gave the city its name!

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham is the place to visit if you want to learn about Ireland's struggle for independence. Now a museum, many significant revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed here.

Dublin Writers Museum

Dublin Writers Museum

In a city of exemplary museums, you might only have time for a quick one. Why not immerse yourself in its great literary reputation by learning more about Joyce and Yeats, et al?

Planning Your Visit

How to get to the city center from Dublin cruise port?

The cruise port is just over a mile from the city center, and there is an express bus service that should only take about 15 minutes. Visitors can also take the number 53 public bus, pick up a cab at the taxi rank, or even take a hop on hop off bus directly from the terminal for an easy jaunt around the sights and then back again!

How to get around?

Dublin's public transport system can be pretty tricky for newcomers to grasp. Fortunately, most areas of interest can be reached pretty quickly by foot. If you really plan on cramming a lot in (and can afford it!) then you'll have no problem hailing a cab. Be aware, though: as well as the initial fare, an extra euro will be added on per passenger.

What people are saying about Dublin

Awesome! Take this tour you will not be disappointed!

The tour was small so we had a lot of attention and our driver and all the tour guides were friendly and knew their history. Thanks

Must do! You get to experience a lot of Ireland!

The tour was amazing. Our guide had so many stories to tell us. It wasn't just like someone telling you bunch of history; it felt much more like stories and an experience. So, just that alone made it worth it. On top of that, you get to visit a lot of cool places in just a day. I felt like I had enough time at each place. You can always spend more time everywhere, but when you consider that it's all squeezed into a day, it works out pretty well. If you're thinking about this specific tour, I would say go for it. I spent a weekend in Ireland, and this was by far my favorite day there. Be ready to take lots of amazing pictures and be blown away by beauty!

Philip, our guide, was fantastic! Knowledgeable and not too pushy.

A natural, knew how to deal with an international clientele. His crisp and precise English was a joy to listen to........disappointing only for those who are looking for an Irish accent. The only minus point....and this has nothing to do with Philip.....was the misleading information about the embarking bus stop.....the Printsafe shop on Nassau Street was already closed and the company bus stop sign was too small and old to be recognised. Luckily we took the trouble to seek the assistance from a tourism office a day before the trip. Late arrivals on the day might have been due to the lack of such a (no longer) clear meeting point. "Opposite Knobs and Knockers" should be a better indication as the shop is still there.

Wicklow, Glendalough and Kilkenny Full-Day Tour from Dublin Reviewed by a GetYourGuide customer, 11/02/2018

Best tour ever because of Derrick and Captain John!

My friend and I had the most enjoyable day touring the Cliffs of Mohr because of our wonderful tour guide, Derrick and our driver, Captain John. It was so educational and Derrick did everything to make everyone happy and comfortable. Captain John did a great job driving on such narrow roads in the countryside. It is such a relaxing way tour the country. I would highly recommend this trip but you must have Derrick for your guide and Captain John for your driver.

Highly recommend to everyone. Paul is an excellent guide

For a just a little more than half day tour- this is an excellent way to learn about Ireland, traditions, history and much much more!
