What people are saying about Doha
We booked our Desert Safari for a 7am start. Then once booked I received an email confirmation stating hotel pick up between 6.30-7am. My wife, daughter age 13, Son age 11 and myself were all down in the Fraser Suites, West Bay for 6.25am. It got to 7.15an and we started to worry so I called the contact - no answer!! Tried again 5 mins later - got a reply on What’s App saying ‘How May I assist you?’. After a number of messages I realized there was a problem. The time was now 7.35am - 2 kids going mental without breakfast!! Eventually they told me due to a technical issue our booking was not updated in their system!! Nightmare.. I called them and they offered an afternoon tour but no real apology!! Eventually I accepted an afternoon tour as my family really wanted to do it. Hmoud was our tour guide and He was really good and did give us a very good experience. We gave him a good tip too. It did say unlimited drinks but we had to ask and the Pepsi we got was warm and 6 months out of date
Generally everything went good, you get what you pay for. Some notes: 1. Be advised, you or your hotel are not contacted prior the trip. You literally receive a WhatsApp message 15 min before the start. Till the last minute I was not sure whether the trip will take place and if the booking is actually ok. No one contacts you. That’s poor. I had to call the number provided which was actually UAE number, not Qatar. It is just a bit unpleasant feeling of uncertainty. However, the driver appeared as on the booking. 2. If you book a shared tour, mind that you will share a car - land cruiser - for 6-7 people + the driver. If you are lucky to be picked up first you have better sits. If not, well, safari tour is anyway about bumping in the car, no matter where you sit, but the back sits are not convenient for legs. 3. Camels ride is more a tick box for 5 min. Generally, count with 5 hours of a tour, you drive south from Doha. Be prepared that sand will be everywhere in your clothes.
Mr. Amir is a very polite and very competent guide, not only including all the important places in the tour within the stipulated time range, and providing brief introductions, but also attending to my special interest in birds in general and falconry in particular. And the local tea and pastry I tasted were great! A most rewarding experience which I expect to repeat in a future visit.
This tour was awesome. Specifically the four wheel drive sand dune bashing was an adrenaline pumping experience that was so unique it warrants the stopover to Doha on the way from Australia to Europe. Helped us transition through jet lag too.
We would like to thank the agency and especially Noufel, our guide. He made our tour unforgettable and fun for all of us (two adults, 1 child aged 6 and 1 child aged 13). we loved all the activities!! highly recommend it!
