What people are saying about David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Driver Alex was great, contacted us by phone to be ready (at 5:45 am, we suspected he might be early) and whisked us to arrive at the park at 6:30 am after loading guests at hotels. He drove all over the park until nearly 11 am, finding large numbers of lions, rhinos white and black, giraffes, ostriches, etc. He has good communication with the other drivers and they help each other locate animals. (NB be careful not to drink too much coffee before you start, as we did not notice a toilet there) After the park he got us to the David Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary in time for the excellent show there, which shares the individuality, playfulness, curiosity and lives of each small orphan elephant, despite their sad experiences. Lunch was a bit expensive and not so tasty, they could choose another venue. The Giraffe Centre was great, both getting up close and personal with very tame giraffes and great staff showing us the museum of conservation. A great day out and much recommended.
We visited Nairobi National Park on the first day of our Safari Holiday in Kenya. The visit lasted 3 hours and we saw Three female Lionesses with their cubs having justb fed on a Zebra. A pair of Rhinos Buffalo so 3 of the big 5. We saw Lots of other animals loads of Zebra, Different Antelopes and gazelles, a Crocodile and Hippos. Numerous birds. later we visited the David Sheldrick Elephant ophanage at feeding times to see the baby elephants get their milk and mud bath. We then went to the Giraffe centre and fed giraffes by hand. Highly recommend this trip as many Safaris start the day after you arive and this is the ideal way to use the day.
Plan for a FULL day (12 hours). Our only mistake was not having enough time (tour indicates 8 hours). Our guide, Alex, was phenomenal and led our vehicle as well as several other vehicles right into the path of 2 lionesses and their 4 cubs! I’ve been on several game drives and this is not easy without tracking devices. He was extremely knowledgeable and made sure we had the best day. He arranged transport at the last minute when we realized we needed to get back to our hotel before the tour was over.
We had an amazing time on this day trip - and our guide, Paul, made it even better. We got to both the giraffes and the elephants before they opened so were able to spend the most amount of time with both (and Paul even helped us in the elephant orphanage to find the best spot for shade and photos). Along the way, we stopped at a great little roadside gift/coffee shop before finally eating a terrific lunch at Carnivore. Cannot recommend this enough for folks spending time in Nairobi!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and ensured we saw as many animals as possible. He found out where the lions had been spotted and got there quickly to make sure we saw this elusive animal! Then the visit to the baby elephants topped off a fantastic trip. Thank you!
