Full description
This tour is private - only for your party, nobody else, to ensure the highest standards for the clients, and includes pickup and drop-off at your accommodation or the port in Catania, Messina, or Taormina. With your friendly and informative private guide you will see the most important sights of Catania, learn about its interesting and sometimes tragic history, walk through its magnificent baroque streets, visit amazing parks, and taste the traditional street food of Catania - arancini - delicious rice balls stuffed with meat ragout and peas.
You will start this private walking tour of Catania with a visit to a famous fish market in Catania - the biggest and the most colorful "pescheria" in Sicily and probably even in all Italy. You will see (and surely can also buy if you wish) many different types of fish and seafood, and feel the authentic atmosphere of Southern Italy's folklore. Then you will walk to an ancient Norman monument - the Ursino Castle built in the 13th Century as a royal castle of the Kingdom of Sicily. Then, the tour will continue on the main street of Catania Via Etnea full of bars, restaurants, and boutiques. You will then visit one of the oldest and most famous "rosticceria" bars where you will taste original Sicilian street food - arancini - delicious rice balls stuffed with meat ragout and peas.
Continue walking along the charming Via Etnea until you arrive at the Duomo Square - the grandest square in Catania. Here you will see the symbol of Catania - the Elephant Fountain, and visit the jewel of Sicilian Baroque and UNESCO heritage - the Cathedral - the most important church in Catania with a statue of the patron saint of the city, Sant'Agatha. Following Via Etnea, you will arrive at Piazza Stesicoro and see the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheater.
