Full description
Travel east towards Caerleon, known as the 'Fort of the Legion', where historians say the extent of Roman remains in the town is impressive. Visit the Roman Bath where soldiers spent most of their leisure time, the National Legionary Museum with exhibits of Roman relics discovered in the town and surrounding areas, and the amphitheater where gladiators fought to the death.

Next stop is the border town of Monmouth. Enjoy the stunning landscape of the Vale of Usk and the 'Town of Flowers'. Monmouth is a town steeped in history - notably, it's the birthplace of King Henry V. The town has three rivers and contains the only river bridge in Britain where the gate tower stands on the bridge. Take lunch in the town and free time to explore.

After lunch travel through the Wye Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, combined with quaint villages and ancient woodland, the perfect setting for the majestic ruins of Tintern Abbey. Take a tour with ample free time to take photographs and explore the river banks.

The final stop of the day is the border town of Chepstow, home to the oldest Norman Castle in Britain. Chance to take a short walk across a cast iron bridge to England, followed by a tour at the castle. Depart late afternoon for the return journey to Cardiff.
