I cannot imagine visiting Chichenitza any other way! The 5 AM pickup at a bus stop was on time, with assigned seating on a large tour bus. Everyone slept until we reached a small Mayan town, and then we went through explanations of Mayan culture and received a blessing. They gave us a sack lunch to eat on the way. We were the very first bus at Chichenitza!! At Chichenitza, Frank, our guide, explained what we were seeing and told us where to look. He had so much knowledge and made the experience so interesting. I knew nothing about Mayans or Chichenitza before we took his tour, and left having learned things. You really need a guide to explain things, as there is not a lot of signage explaining what you are seeing. After his 2 hour tour, we had one hour to look at other sites (the place is massive) or shop at vendors. When we left, it was so crowded. The bus ride back was quiet and they dropped everybody off at their hotels. Highly recommend this tour!
Frank and Cardon were fantastic. I got so much information and it was awesome to get to Chichen Itza before the heat and when it wasnt too crowded. I would give the tour guides themselves 5 stars. My big disappointment was that I thought we'd actually be at Chichen Itza to see the sunrise, that is what I thought I was paying for and why I woke up at 4am...but you don't actually see any sunrise which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. You are on a bus. We got to Chichen Itza closer to 8am. I am not sure why we stopped at the Mayan Village before getting to Chichen Itza, we should have stopped there after then maybe we might have seen sunrise. All that said, i would still recommend this tour because you beat the heat and the crowds and the tour guides were fantastic.
From the very first moments on the tour bus I knew we were in for a real treat. Our tour guide Cesar was knowledgeable, personable and quite witty. He made the entire 2 1/2 hour ride a little more bearable. Once at the ruins he gave us great tips from renting umbrellas to which part of the ruins to visit during free time. The relaxing swim in the Cenote was a great way to finish out the entire excursion. Needless to say, I would definitely take a ride with Amigo tours again.
As promised we arrived as first group by bus at Chichen Itza early in the morning around 8 am. But of course not at sunrise as written in the online advertisement. We could spend 3 ours at Chichen Itza. Two hours as guided tour and one hour for ourselves. Our guide Marco did a great job! He is a relaxed and very funny guide, who is at the same time very knowledgable. I enjoyed this tour and his explanations of the Maya culture very much.
The tour guide, Marco, was great. His knowledge of the site and ancient Maya was excellent. He kept the tour lively with his personality. It was nice having a tour bus for transport. Jorge can turn that bus on a dime. I would definitely recommend the sunrise tour over the regular one. Beat all the crowds that come later in the day.
